As for Vinicius saying it made him stronger, well that's one of those after-the-fact statements. If they'd lost, we could have said it destabilised him. Both statements would be bollocks.
The real classlessness was this detestable club boycotting a ceremony because they had decided in advance who the winner would be. I'm sure in Spain, where the winner of their league is pretty much decided in advance between two clubs, and two only (with the occasional crumb thrown to the other Madrid team), and that has been the case for decades, that mindset is firmly entrenched. Well, wake up, you people in Madrid — that's not how a competition works. It's definitional. A competition means there is competition.
