No way was he MoTM. I thought Gvardiol was to be honest, he was outstanding last night.

They were better than us. The banner didn't make any difference. I thought, as many Blues did, that it was going to be difficult even before I knew anything about the banner. I'll be honest we did better than I thought we would.

Given the below from UEFA regarding the player of the Match award. There was absolutely no chance (given that one of their star team's players lost out on the balloon door) that this was going to anyone other than VJ.

"At the end of every game, one player is given the Player of the Match award. This award is decided by UEFA's technical observer panel"
 
Tricky one this. Odious behaviour like that over the Ballon d’Or needs calling out and the banter is a bit of fun… but then you have to go and win, otherwise you just end up looking idiotic.

If we were playing like we were in the 100 point season I’d be more relaxed over it but we should know full well that, the way we’re playing this season, this would come straight back and bite us on the arse. Very much in the same vein as the “we did it in the derby” t-shirts, Haaland’s “stay humble”, etc.

The last thing you need is to be giving a player as good as Vinicius any reason to be any more motivated than he already is. On balance I’d much rather be the bigger man and us not get involved in this sort of thing, but if we must then save it for Twitter/X or something the day after we’ve won.

Seriously? You think they were pithily unarsed about the match until they saw the banner and thought "you know what, lets give this a go after all?".

Their boycott of the Balon d'or was the most childish, twatish thing they've done in a long time, making them a real laughing stock, not to mention the insult towards Rodri and City for injecting serious doubt that he deserved the award.

The least we should do is show them an amusing slightly mocking banner....
Folk need to get over themselves - the rags offically sanctioned clock banner, and the dippers "Aren't we great" banners are on another level both intellectually and comedically...
 
Thought the banner looked good, I'm bit on the fence about banners rubbing your nose in it but hey ho (e.g. United's trophy year thing), but not a lot of people got the lyrical reference of the text and read it as wrote. I think that nuance was lost on many.

No problem with the banner. It was an initiative by a very active group of fans, and as such it was a good bit of bantz. As for Vinicius saying it made him stronger, well that's one of those after-the-fact statements. If they'd lost, we could have said it destabilised him. Both statements would be bollocks.
The real classlessness was this detestable club boycotting a ceremony because they had decided in advance who the winner would be. I'm sure in Spain, where the winner of their league is pretty much decided in advance between two clubs, and two only (with the occasional crumb thrown to the other Madrid team), and that has been the case for decades, that mindset is firmly entrenched. Well, wake up, you people in Madrid — that's not how a competition works. It's definitional. A competition means there is competition.
I have come to truly loathe them. They were one of the clubs who were most vigorously hostile to us taking a seat at the top table. Well, we're here, and despite our poor showing both in Europe and the league this season, we're not fucking going anywhere…
