Not for more immediate pressing occasions too? Should we stick with the copper bottomed, world class alternative defenders we possess instead?
The post I quoted said they don't know why he was brought in if he doesn't play tomorrow. An absurd pre-emptive overreaction.

The lad speaks no English, he had a calamitous first 10 minutes that will stay with him for a little bit, if he shits the bed again, that's going to stall his career, peps just decided not to risk him yet to give him a chance to settle and hopefully erase the debut from his memory. It's good management.

Same old, same old. Can we look forward to another 15 or 20 games for Lewis, who’s shit the bed on a regular basis?

What other club would buy £30m players just to mothball them when the team is creaking at the seams?

So yes, play the all star alternatives who’ve shone so brightly.

We threw him in straight away, he had a nightmare start and so the plan changes and the priority then became protecting the lad. Had he started against madrid and got roasted again, then what? That could wreck him. He's hear for a long time, if he needs breaking in slightly
more slowly than ideal to ensure he doesn't end his own career before it's started, it's unfortunate but it's fine.

Play him tomorrow...why not ?

I respect your opinion but it’s very pessimistic. He played well enough next half game and, who knows, might even put in a great performance. What are the odds of Lewis doing that? He’s regarded as a liability by almost everyone except the manager and a handful of disciples so how big a gamble is it really?

I’m getting fed up of seeing us banging our heads against a brick wall by using the same personnel and tactics week in week out. We have regressed and simply run out of ideas this season.

I'd play him tomorrow, and i've not even said i dont think he will, theres every chance he might I can just completely understand why pep has and potentially continue to be cautious with him after his debut. It's good management.

Don't see it as pessimism, just not a gamble that needs to be taken. I don't see it as a case of whether he's likely to be a better option than others, I'm not arguing that, it's simply about protecting a new kid from drowning before he's even learnt how to swim.

OK, let’s agree to differ and see how things pan out today.

Who has more chance of drowning? Lewis who lacks the attributes to play full back against real pace or Khusanov who does. Both youngsters.

Be interesting to see if Guardiola starts him today. I hadn’t realised he’d played quite so little club football, only 3,299 minutes over the last three seasons, whereas Lewis, who is the same age, has amassed 5,799 minutes, and generally at a much higher level. Not necessarily an either or choice, of course. Problem we have is ‘protecting’ him by not playing him both adds to the strain on others and slows his development; our season(s) rather in a nutshell. And, if the race for top four remains tight, there’s no guarantee that Guardiola will then give him more game time against teams placed lower. As I say, an interesting call.

Khusanov will need at least one full season under his belt before reaching the level of our experienced defenders. A lot of fans seem to underrate experience. It's hugely important. Even Rodri, who was 2-3 years older than Khusanov, needed time to get Pep's football.
He may not need anything like that timeframe. No one can possibly know that at this stage.

You can mollycoddle him and play Rico and watch him struggle for a absolute certain against Gordon and isak or you can play him and give those 2 a little something to fear.

Its why playing as the right back is best for him now. He just needs to do the basics and defend, that's all. He's not going to start because of his ball retention, it would be to give gordon and isak a challenge.

Not the point I'm making or trying to at least. I'm not suggesting Rico is a better option. What i'm saying is Rico has about 50 appearances and 3 years under his belt to mentally deal with getting rinsed or fucking up against madrid as he did for that third. Khusanov has little more than an hour and 3 weeks here, a second disaster moment like Rico's against madrid could have mentally wrecked him

No I get your point mate. I’m simply saying that of the two players I believe there is less chance of Khusanov getting rinsed and therefore suffering mentally. All opinions. Both perfectly valid :-)
