Agreed. Best performance of the season in all cups. Think Pep knows his stuff :-)

Agree with this. Was going to say the exact same thing
That (home) debut reminded me so much of Rodri's debut.....I said about Rodri at the time he was always in the right place at the break down just like Gaz Barry used to be....same with Nico- always there at the right spot and just like Rodri he is exceptionally cool under pressure....just gives a simple calm pass.
An awful lot to feel confident about with that performance from Nico...
Foden so much better in the middle where he can get on the half turn - that is his game and playing him wide does not allow him to do that as much.
Gvardiol's last few games have been his best ever in a city shirt....we know he can attack but defensively so much improved
Stones -I just hope/wish that he can stay fit....he makes one hell of a difference.
Khusonov - this lad is brave - he just puts his head into areas where boots are flying....his passing is also excellent and he loves the physical battle.
Edersons passing today was borderline ridiculous....baring one heart stopping one early in the first half to Gundo (who did extremely well tbf to get out of it) he made some creative midfielders look bad it was so good between the lines (and obviously long passes as well)
Haaland loves responsibility and I do wonder if Pep made him captain to try and drag that extra % out of him.....it worked when it would have been obvious to give the captaincy to either Gundo or even Stones.
Marmoush can finish.....we now have a goal threat from either outwide or the no.10 role....technically excellent, pace and a clever player as well who can slow the game down and speed it up at the right time.
I saw something today that has been missing all season....those little 3-4 yd passes between players which to some seem pointless but are designed to keep the opposition changing position and also to slow the game down and keep possession....Nico was doing it with everyone - we used to see it from Yaya to David Silva a lot....or Gundo and Rodri pre Gundo leaving for Barca......today it was back
Doku looked hungry and brave as ever coming on - happy for McAtee as well - got the goal while being clearly fouled.
For a team that are “stronger and more physical than us” I thought they were a bunch of weedy pussiesIvenot seen a lot of Newcastle this year..id be interested to see what they thought about their performance...was it sub par for this season or were we just so much better that we have been all season - or a mix of both???
They were absurdly shite.
I can’t quite believe how truly rubbish they were.
Don’t get me wrong I’m delighted at the result but let’s not kid ourselves that it’s some transformation.
Eddie Howe said exactly the same thing post match. He sounded really pissed off.For a team that are “stronger and more physical than us” I thought they were a bunch of weedy pussies
Gonzalez can also play further forward and has done it successfully on manu occasions. It will be great seeing them play together.was thinking the same...imagine having the ability to release Rodri that bit further forward......it will cause mayhem as we know Rodri is a huge goal threat as well as creative threat...him being able to be that without the concern of playing the loan 6 has huge potential.....or vice versa of course
If that’s all you take from that today there is something seriously wrong with you. Doctor!!!!!!They were absurdly shite.
I can’t quite believe how truly rubbish they were.

The last sentence seems a little harsh. I don’t think anyone thinks it’s a transformative moment. They were absurdly shite.

What a difference it makes with a proper number six playing. We have a structure again!
Gonzalez was supreme as the 6 today and that balanced the side beautifully.
No huge gaps helped Khusanov excel and even the much maligned Rico Lewis looked like a good footballer again.
Marmoush finished all his goals brilliantly and he may well limit KDB’s minutes for the rest of the season.
Savinho skinned Hall. He’ll be having nightmares tonight.
Hope Haaland is okay
I thought Stones had a great game.Nico made Bruno look like a little kid. Some display.

What a difference a few days make! After a mixed bag against the Spanish rags, I was more than a bit nervous.
When I saw Rico, Gundo and Eddie in the starting lineup, I feared the worst. Instead this was our most complete performance all season, the first half especially so. Playing with pace attacking more directly against a bloody good side, we were superb. Nico looked like he was born for the 6, and had been playing for us for years. He was constantly talking directing players and as a result we were so assured. Gundo was terrific as an 8, and much more solid. The defence was utterly unruffled by the Geordies pace, Khusanov will be a legend. Stone's next to was brilliant, both Lewis and Josko fantastic.
Eddie became the assist king, his distribution is second to none and when we are full of attack, got legs in midfield, the defence and keeper look a million times better. Who knew?
Omar Marmoush looks stunning he is going to score some goals, got pace and bags of skill, he Erl and Savinho are going to have a lot of fun. Omar will grab the headlines but Savi was unplayable. Erl absolutely thriving on getting the armband, feels very promising. All the subs did well too, crowd were lively.
One small complaint, my stream was that far behind I'm expecting Graeme souness to get sacked any time now! Mission impossible in Madrid, you never know.....
Tis a bit irritating that just winning a few more games than we have done so far and we'd perhaps be putting some pressure on the ferals and the bridesmaids! Also can we play a decent version of Blue Moon, that fast paced one really is dire!
Anyway City till I die:-)
