Newcastle United (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Our most complete performance of the season, that kinda rolled back the years to peak Guardiola.

Excellent all over the pitch, playing with pace and desire, thus keeping Gordon & Isak quiet which is no easy task.

Omar will take the plaudits for a superb hat-trick obviously, but Nico at CDM provided what we’ve been lacking all season.

Dare Pep play him on Wednesday in the 2nd leg?

Good performance from us. Really expected a lot more from Newcastle, not complaining though.

Having spent the morning reading the APT thread and the arguments about whether it was a marginal win or not for City it was brilliant to go to the match and witness a resounding win! Great team performance and exciting to watch. The rebuild is underway.

Hell of a game! The best game in my opinion since we lost Rodri. We did feel so much safe in the back four with a proper def mid on the pitch, who plays the ball simpel, read the game, calming the play down, looks really solid. I think Stones has been good since the comeback aswell
Don't think we had the best back 4 we could place on the pitch either because of injuries

Nice to see a clean sheet and no sloppy errors. In the front we looked really good I think, all over the pitch.

I think you could see that with Gonzales on the pitch the opponent that have stressing our back four to mistakes and errors gave up because he was always there to help, showing himself, offering a easy play here in Sweden all the papers where talking about how many goals Isak would score on citys shaky defence, we where Solid as hell Isak was invisible

I am still buzzing. The potential in this squad is enormous. We are deffo on the right lines. The new recruits look excellent. We need a full back and maybe a creative midfielder (KDB and Gundog will move on) but with Rodri and Oscar on the way back and Reis still to be tested, this is very exciting. I hope our raised tempo and judicious use of the long ball alternative does not dribble away. Pep said something the other day which hinted that he thinks our old tactics have served their purpose, so I am hopeful. Onwards blues!

Agree on the fullback we need that and on the creative midfielder I guess Wirtz is the one they want.

Don't forget Echeverri, who sounds like a great prospect

Refreshing, not sure if N'Castle were poor or we were just really good.

Impressed with:
Khusanov - Looked assured and aggressive, a decent passer between the lines too.

Stones - absolute class of a player, reads the game so well.

Savinho - best player on the pitch for me, everything good came through him.

Marmoush - Good finishing.
Nico - Good composure and positioning.
Gvardiol - Looks switched on.

Dissapointed with:
Foden - Doesn't affect the game from the middle as he should, Physical doesn't look like he can dominate that area nor does he do enough creatively.

Rico Lewis - Can't see what he offers playing central, passes sideways or backwards and dwells on the ball, think his best position would be as a defensive RW or offensive RWB

Ederson - prefer not to speak.
Whilst I agree with most, It was Phil’s movement that dragged Tonali all over the show which allowed the 3 in-front of him the space needed.

Similar thinking to others following this game.

That the decline that so many fear, myself included, may not be so drastic

The squad has potential. Just need 2/3 astute signings.
