I find what is tried to be passed off as American culture as something I have no affinity with. It is not a place I even want to visit at the moment although my niece is trying to entice me over to Philadelphia.

I understand we are really talking about a continent and there is a huge diversity of different personalities of states and people, etc etc etc…….
but as it stands, it’s still full of Americans, sorry Foggy. No nice way of putting it. I couldn’t visit there and keep my mouth shut so it’s probably best I don’t visit.


Edit: I’ve just thought what probably irks me the most and what Trump in particular is spreading beyond his borders.What seems to go through your whole society, from sport all the way through business, is that it’s not how you play the game, it’s about winning at all costs. There is no empathy to the loser. Winning is all that gets respect.

I was brought up with the opposite instilled in me. It’s not the winning or losing, but how you play the game. Honesty, fairness, sportsmanship and the likes. Quality is recognised and celebrated but not at the expense of everyone else but you.

The nuclear weapons safety is comically awful. I do like the claims that they were mostly admin, but clearly very important admin as they now need to rehire them.
Also they can't find some of them!

They'll get away with it though, the damage will arrive well after Orange has dribbled away.

A six sigma event is a very unusual occurrence, sometimes catastrophic, outside the range of normal probability on the tail end of a bell curve. In parlance the term also has been referred to as a “black swan” event after Nassim Taleb’s book. The GFC Is the Great Financial Crisis in 2008 which nearly sent the worldwide economy into a depression.

A statistical term.

Sigma is a term for "standard deviation" - how much variance there is from the average.

"Two sigma " means two standard deviations. Only 5% of a sample are outside of two sigma from the mean so for height maybe 6'2: only 5% of people are taller

"Six sigma" requires you a two in a billion likelihood. For height maybe 8 feet tall or something - the tallest person in the whole of Europe.

Generally used to mean "extremely unlikely".
