Real Madrid (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

We are a very inconsistent team this season, A very disjointed team, Numerous players past their best and a team coming to the end of it's cycle.

We deserved to be knocked out of Europe before these Real Madrid games, Although these games have shown how far we are behind the best.

It is what it is and we have to take it on the chin, We've one of the managers in the world in charge and he will rebuild this City team into another successful team.

Let's end the season on a high with a trophy and get the summer targets signed up.

Heartbreak after heartbreak each season?
Go and have a lie down in a dark room mate.
So you’re judging Pep on our CL record ? Did you watch us fucking destroy Madrid last season ? And go out on penalties ?
I’d rather be a marathon winner (4 times on the bounce) than that toothy prick who fucked off because Pep ground him to dust .
You forgetting Ferguson’s record in the CL ? Battered by Munich in Barcelona , with two late goals ? Or John Terry slipping as he took his penalty in the Moscow final ? That lucky whisky slurping **** had the most amazing luck in two finals.
We were unlucky last year.
4 in a row pisses all over the European FA cup.

In the Champions league, of course.

& I don't want to go back 9 years and mentioned every time he got it wrong.

Again, for the league ( If he is well emotionally and mentally ) he is great

But in the CL, it was not great.

I know he won the CL , but so did Roberto Di Matteo

Pep is marathon manager (League) , not 100meter race ( CL )

Away from Messi, he always struggles in the Champions league.

He managed them after winning 6 trophies including the Champions league but he failed to do well with Bayern.

With City, it's a heartbreak after heartbreak each season with him.

Look at Liverpool, they replaced Klopp with someone nobody's know

They spent less than City, and he is miles ahead of Pep right now in all competitions.

You’re the worst poster on this forum.

Genuinely dreadful posts.

Why?

What would have made a difference?

People are living with their heads in the clouds if they think KDB makes the slightest bit of difference in that game...infact I would wager it would have been worse....he tracks back and defends less than Gundo who was completely annonymous today and the only player that you could question whether he should have been on the pitch...but it would have been Kova to replace him and that would have been that

Haaland - injured and couldnt play but again with their midfield dominance he probably makes little difference.

Grealish - has been very poor for a season and a half baring the last 20 mins he played against Madrid in the previous game - but clearly Pep has a problem with something with Grealish and Id wager again its something to do with his lifestyle to put it politely - either way he aint making any difference...

So who else

The squad aint good enough anymore....too many either young and inexperienced players or players that either arent good enough anymore or just cant stay on the pitch long enough

This game again shows the gulf that is growing between our squad and where we once were.

Stones - finished - cant be relied on physically
KDB - finished - Pep knows he aint got the legs hence why he aint played - if he plays vs Liverpool we will see the same problem
Gundo - finished - same problem

The new lads played ok but you can see that with all of them they have a lot to learn and are not at the top level yet - and thats ok as no one can expect that from them but thats another 3 players on the pitch but who would you have played instead of them
Rico at full back would have got murdered.
we have no cover for Rodri as Pep has tried every other possible combination and its been really poor
Mamoush - who starts in front of him tonight with Haaland injured? - there is no one.

SO how does pep actually change it? - answer is he cannt do it.
The real issue is that the senior players who were the cornerstone of our successful squads are now finished. Walker, Stones, KDB, Gundo and probably Bernardo as well.

We lost, deservedly so as that is where we are at in this moment - we are not the team we were 2 seasons ago - no where near and noone could expect that with the decline in KDB, Gundo,Walker, Stones, and the loss of Rodri

Time for people to start to accept this as it has just been laid bare infront of you. We have seen the marker of where we need to get back to and we are 2 steps behind them at the moment.

Rebuild needed and we have started it but not there yet
I couldn't agree more.

FUCK ME

we spent big in January because we made huge mistake not doing it in the summer before. and yes maybe not 7 but 4-5 serious players need to arrive in the summer too to continue the huge rebuild front of us. and it wont be the fans deciding this but Soriano and Khaldoon.
there will be 4-5 players leaving this squad in the summer at least the obvious ones the very least and the jury is out on some more like Grealish, Bernardo, Ederson etc, surely we cannot let the squad be that much thinner for next season. neither we cannot allow lesser players replacing them. so if 4-5 is leaving indeed like Gundo, KDB, Walker at the minimum, we need new ones in. otherwise we are back to square one and same thin squad.
the only mistake in summer was the lack of Walker replacement. Alvarez left pretty late. you cannot just buy big-6 starting level players and put them on bench or just shift the shift the club greats to bench with no evidence. it is like the the Alvarez case. He never got a secured starting place and it won't last. No team can change whole 11 players over one year time except Real Madrid. it will look wired.

There were many shit performances tonight, Gundo was shit but he wasn't the worst, Savinho WTF was he doing ? Gonzales scored. but was utterely anonymous for 92 minutes, Foden's sole contribution was a shot from 40 yards out, that is probably orbiting the moon right now, Dias started the mess with whatever he was trying to do, Marmoush supposedly started the game, but nobody noticed, i've probably missed some that were worse.
Wish I could argue with this, but I can't.

We're going to have to put up with everybody saying how brilliant Madrid were, but anybody would have looked good against us, tonight. It was as though nobody had been told what the gameplan was.
I watched the match, but couldn't tell them what it was, either? Very strange.

We're not the first top team to hang onto fading stars too long, but I can never remember this stark drop-off in such a short time before.

Injuries have been crippling, of course, but everybody is making mistakes. The same players who everybody on here has been calling for were like rabbits caught in headlights tonight.

God, I hope Pep gets himself and the players back on track before the end of the season...

I just can’t get my head around the fact that the champions of England only just scraped through to the playoff stage only to be punished by drawing Real Madrid In the playoffs. This one stings and I know not everyone likes the Champions league but I love competing against the best teams in Europe.
I know we had our injuries, but we still had enough quality to get through. I can only put it down too weak mental attitude, the team selection, and just poor performances from top players. I hope this one hurts for them and they regroup and make a go of it to qualify for next year.

That post is bollocks and you know it.

That part highlighted is the most stupidest sayings ever in football, This narrative of "Pep only won the Champions League with Barcelona because of Messi"...

Messi only won the Champions League "Four Times", Two of which were with Pep, If it was that easy why did other Barcelona manager not win it with Messi other than Enrique x1 and Rijkaard x1, Messi was at the club for 17 years. Not to mention Barcelona didn't win a single trophy in three years before the arrival of Pep, He came in and won a Treble with them.staright away.

Peps Barcelona team was arguably the best club team ever, Football that nobody witnessed ever before, Not to mention absolutely wiping the floor with Ferguson Rags team in the biggest games of world football twice, A Rags team that were dominating England were made look like MK Dons by Peps Barcelona.

Pep has also won it with us, A club that has never won the competition before and no Messi, We battered absolutely every team we faced apart from Inter Milan in the final, Plus we watched arguably the best ever football by any English side smashing Madrid 4-0 at home...

If we’d conceded 1 goal less against Feynoord at home, we’d probably be in the next round now.
We’ve had some bad injuries this season but also some very poor team selections, and some players are very sadly lacking at the levels required.

No one's denying that Pep is one of the top 5 managers of all time alongside Cruyff, Michels etc
But tonight was fucking embarrassing.
This was a team with Ederson, Dias, Gvardiol, Foden, Gundogan, Stones, Bernardo, Savinho, Marmouch, Nico and Kusanov.

Most clubs would kill for that talent. But we were humiliated by not the best Madrid team.

Pep can no longer put the Lego together. It's time to go. All of you people who expect him to resurrect this sinking ship are seriously misguided. He was a serious upgrade on Mancini and Pellegrini but like them he's done

Has he lost the players? Are they suffering from Pep fatigue? Has Pep burned himself out? Plenty of questions currently Jim
Obviously, he's not suddenly turned into a crap manager, but it's a valid question as to whether he really has the appetite to start again?
If he's only looking at another 2 years, is he personally even going to reap any benefits from all the effort?
This feels like a watershed season, not just a transitional blip.
It looks as though - when next season comes around - the 'core' players will be outnumbered by newbies. Not ideal and makes it difficult to carry forward any legacy from the whirlwind we've lived through these past years.
Probably the toughest job in his career to date.

The tie was lost in the last 5 minutes last week

The match tonight was lost as soon as Haaland decided he couldn’t play

The players and probably pep didn’t believe from the 1st minute that they could get a result

Not been as unarsed about a result for a long time as we had hardly any chance to win and even if we did we wouldn’t have gone much further

It would have hurt much more to have lost so feebly going into that with a 2-1 lead so those late goals last week saved us a lot of pain

Almost relieved to only lose 3-1 and to save holidays and money that I can use on other things

Big rebuild in the summer and pep is the man to do it. We go again next season

He inherited the best Bayern Munich ever after them winning the CL, yet he failed with them in the CL.

With City, in 9 years he won just 1 CL after spending around Billion.

I love Pep, and hope he will do like Zidane or Ancelotti in the CL and wins it almost every year

But unfortunately , for some reason he is struggling a lot in this competition.
