if he doesnt start Spurs or Forest games but does in the Plymouth only, that kind of confirms Pep is giving him the McAtee treatment. with a academy youth players you can do that but 100m record signing its bit strange. his agent hopefully very busy because the loss we take on this price will be huge but still we need a decent offer from some club.
His contract would be amortized over six years - north of 33m in the next window is a profit, and it’s a very reasonable figure for a player of his stature. Even if we only moved him for 30 the reduction in weekly wages is likely to be a positive.

This feels like Pep sending the message that his time is officially up.

Try him in midfield again and give him an actual run of games there. He can't possibly be any worse than the other options and he may do well with kdb or foden.
De Bruyne, Foden, Kova and Gundo are still getting minutes in the middle before Jack so it's just not going to happen! Pep's made his mind up on him apparently, so it's best for all parties if he goes.

I understand that but he can't possibly be worse than kova or gundo right now in that position surely. Is pep really going to just keep our most expensive ever player on the bench when we clearly have a midfield crisis. He's basically useless outwide in this current team.

Frustrating thing is that he's ideal for Peps philosophy, and we will never know the reasons why he couldn't live up to the hype, the Villa, game dominating Jack has never materialised here.

100 million pounds though, feel he'll never live that down, even though he's won the lot he will always be seen as an failure.

The fact that he wasn’t on the field at any stage speaks volumes. He might be the most valuable antique in our shop in the summer
But why though ? against PSG he comes on scores and had a hand in another goal, against Orient he assists the winner, against Madrid he creates the first goal, those are his last games, if he's not fit for even a few minutes why is he on the bench ? just what the fuck is going on here ?

Plenty of people can see that, but Pep doesn't seem to fancy trying him there for some reason. Not sure where you're coming from about his performances out wide since he's actually been pretty solid in his last couple appearances on the left wing.

I just don't think he has the required out put to be a top quality winger for us tbh ive been hoping for years that he would be turned into a cm i thought thats what he was bought for when we originally signed him.

It's puzzling honestly. Not even been playing poorly and certainly not as poorly as Foden and de Bruyne, yet has a seat on the bench with his name engraved on it.

Should've had two assists against Orient if the first goal that game was given to Rico instead of Khusanov for the deflection.

In general yes, but in the past month he's had a goal, an assist and 2 key passes that led to goals. That's not a bad return given his 2024.

Would be cool to see Pep tinker with him in the middle given the nonsense we see line up there week after week, but we're just not going to see it and I'm done holding out hope he has a place in any plans moving forward.

I’ll go to my grave never understanding why we spent 100M on him, and only ever played him at winger on the edge of the touch line…when the whole reason he was “valued” at that astronomical price was because he was one of the best creators on the ball through the middle during a 2-3 year spell at Villa when he had fuck all around him.
Complete waste, and arguably the worst decision of pep’s time here with us when you think about how much he pushed to get him across the line.

It would be the first question I’d ask Pep if I ever have the chance to meet him.
It has confused me for years now.

Will always be apart of the treble memories!
Thank you for that Jack.

I never really understood the signing & the fee but I dont think he can be classed as a failure as he played a big part in winning lots of stuff including the chumps league.

Exactly, the constant injuries are obviously a massive problem but based on his last games he should be used even for a limited time when he's available, maybe he's just fallen out with Pep.

If he was not playing at all, it would be easier to understand.

But why play him against Madrid if he’s persona non grata?

I can’t for one minute believe that he would have done any worse than the midfielders who played for us today.

Or maybe it's just more baffling management from Pep, I just don't fucking know.

If he could keep fit, he'd do wonders cutting inside from the left with Gvardiol overlapping. His pass in the build up to Haaland's first goal at home against Madrid was a sign of what could be, but this apparent falling out with Pep and availability issues have pretty much sealed his fate here.

Totally agree though that if you're going to pay that much for a player, you play him in the position or role that made the deal happen in the first place.

Even though I don't think we will see it, and it's likely he plays LW against Spurs.

If we are going to play some central midfielders deeper, Grealish is fairly good at making those passes over the top for all these runners we now have.

With how Pep is managing his defenders this season, that may very well be the case.

Maybe Pep doesn't like his "bad face", but I think anyone would have a hard time being and appearing happy when you've not played as poorly as your teammates yet they consistently get picked ahead of you.

One could summarize his inability to keep fit during his time with us, may be because he has been playing a position he is not physically able to play at a high level on a regular consistent basis.

It is what it is at this point. We won the league every year with him in the squad up until now… so it’s been far from a disaster…but I’ll just never understand it.
