Liverpool (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

We played well for most of the game. Abysmal in both boxes.

Wing play was really good. Didn't have anyone to aim at in the box with crosses due to the Liverpool CBs and the movement of the attackers around them wasn't good.

Khusanov has some of the best defensive instincts I've seen for a defender this young. Will be a monster.

Hard to watch the decline of Kev. Father time and injuries have done it, I think. Phil has just not been good enough. Might be time for Ake to go too. Good servant and a really strong 1 v 1 defender but can't carry sick notes.

Marmoush has so much talent but is struggling with simple things and maybe some selfishness. It's still a bedding in period though. He's getting used to the play style and tendencies of those around and vice versa.

Rico was surprisingly not bad, imo. My good friend who I talk shop with thought he was poor but I didn't see it.

Not easy to produce an end product in a game without Haaland.
Especially when you don't/can't cross or dribble into 5 players you can't beat. He's great at starting an attack, fucking useless at completeing one, sorry you can sugar coat his performance all you want, but ultimately did he create a decent chance after all the excitement of him beating someone.

One of the most frustrating players I've ever watched, yes he produces moments of excitement, but there's rarely any end product.

Also he offers the full back no protection at all, Savinho at least does seem to be learning how to do this.

There is a valid concern that next season will also be another transitional season. We should consider binning off the club world cup to let some of these players recover.
They are knackered. After this summer competition, next summer will be the world cup, then who knows what the following summer.
We can’t sack off the CWC as a business due to the huge revenue it will bring in, especially as we have massively underperformed in the CL so revenues from that will have taken a serious hit.

They did all they needed to do tactically, took an early lead, consolidated it, then played the game out, something we used to do regularly, they didn't have to be great, just clinical, and win, they were and did.
They are a hardworking team who happen to have two, Salah & Van Dijk, world class players who are still at the top of their. game. In some ways they need to win the league this year as it will be the last chance for both of them. Salah will be of to Saudi and Van Dijk is 34 in the summer and central defenders don't win titles.
League is going to be wide open next season.

When I saw the line up I feared the worst and it turned out as expected. We were shite today and barely created any meaningful chances. The subs at the end was Pep throwing the towel in. I never usually ever leave early, but when he put Gundo, Kovatic and Dias on I decided I couldn't be bothered to watch any more if we weren't going to try any more.
I certainly think the subs were an acceptance that our race was run today.

The Dias one was bizarre though. If he was fit I’m not sure why he wasn’t playing or was it a case of Pep wrapping him in cotton wool now Stones and Akanji are out.

I thought we did ok without ever threatening in the final third. For all the good work Doku and Savinho did, there wasn't ever a point where I thought we were going to score.

Liverpool did what they needed to do, let us have possession most of the second half as they knew we weren't going to do anything with it .

I got the impression they had several gears in reserve if needed, and if we had managed to get one back then they'd have gone at us again and got a third .

Sad to watch KdB now. All good things come to an end and he really shouldn't be anywhere near a starting spot whilst we've still got 4th place to fight for.
Us today. Sad to see.angry-beating.gif

Agree.

Particularly happy for Khusanov after the awful start against Chelsea. Not everyone rebounds so quickly.

And depressed for KDB... such a steep decline since he came back from surgery. I console myself thinking about Newcastle away last year... minutes on the pitch worth gold.

On Wednesday I commented how Real Madrid defended in a 442 and we defended with a 2. Today Liverpool defended in a really well drilled 5 4 1 and we defended horribly. We weren’t going to score today if we’d played until midnight. It was a really disappointing performance. Doku and Savinho ok, Foden, KDB, Gvardiol, Lewis all terrible.

Major squad surgery required this summer,

Having not seen Marmoush much before he came to us, did he play more as a centre forward or a wide forward at his last club..... - He aint a number 8 thats for certain...
Mostly wide left , I believe. With licence to come inside. As he played against Newcastle.

I did not say 10 of those that played today. The three new guys look promising. 10 of the squad need clearing out though in my opinion and i am entitled to express it without morons like you calling me an idiot.
I'm fully entitled to be a moron, just as you are an idiot. 10 of them don't need "clearing out", probably 3 or 4, others will become squad players eventually, some already are, we're struggling with persistent injuries in case you hadn't noticed.
