It’s Quiet 20 - What is the Wirtz that could happen?

He is a good player, but we need players that can come in and deliver goals and assists worthy of a team aiming to win PL from day one. I'm not so certain he is at that level, yet. Could very well just be another Doku/Savinho, with other words a guy that looks exiting but in the end there is not enough attacking returns to show for it.
That could very well be the case and the fact he essentially plays same role foden does, not sure where he'd fit anyway, would rather a more marauding midfielder if we do sign one but simons still isn't average regardless.

i've honestly lost confidence for this summer. i don't know how you guys can see how pathetic this team can perform at home to teams really not that good like madrid and liverpool - teams that the city of just 2 years ago would have absolutely destroyed, how feckless and bereft of ideas we look, and think we're 1 or 2 players away from greatness. I mean we've spent 200m just last month and we look as bad, if not worse than before! We keep adding mediocrity to the team that we later have to ship, we buy players for 1 position only to realize they can't play it. we buy a centerback to play at leftback, we buy a striker who cannot play striker. there is just no planning in terms of squad building so idk where the confidence that we'll get this summer right coming from

But "he's one of our own" so gets a free pass
This squad has many problems, and Foden performances is one of them.
For me it has more to do with that it feels much more likely that Foden next season will bounce back to his previous levels being only 24y old, rather than that our young talents who has never been anywhere close to that level will suddenly become top players or that our older guys will go back to the levels they had a few years ago.
Some might call it a "free pass", I just see it as out of the ones not delivering on a level high enough (which is most of our players), Foden is the one most likely to start performing as a top player in the next season based on age and what he has previously shown.

Not just him, I find some of our fans attitudes towards players very strange, we are seeing the end of an era, we thank the older and not good enough players that will be leaving this summer and move on and create a new team of heroes but a lot of our fan base seem more concerned about those players than the good of the club.

Players come and go, some leave as legends and will never be forgotten but at this time the only important thing is seeing us rebuild into a new young, hungry, winning side.

I don’t completely disagree with you, although I do think the signings in January have improved us slightly, maybe by about 5%. Txiki has left us in this mess and it’s going to take a complete unknown at this level to rectify it, we will just have to trust Viana and wait and see. Some of the names im hearing on here by posters, like Kudus/MGW…come on boys, seriously. They’re Doku level signings.

I do fear, if Wirtz isn’t possible what do we do then, this team is completely devoid of creativity against decent sides, unfortunately there isn’t anyone out there that even remotely as good as Wirtz in that regard.

Suzuki
Frimpong
Cambiaso
Wharton
Baena
Delap

Could see something like this in the summer.
Suzuki is too young, probably would be loaned then
Frimpong - with Khusanov we could play more to his strenghts with less importance to defending
Cambiaso makes the most sense
i like Baena, could give us extra creativity, could play as a CF/SS

Angelino was brought back and was quickly found out.

To make the money we did on him twice was brilliant business.

Only works with those players who still feel wedded to the Club.

If Chelsea do want Delap, they can pay us for the privilege.
I thought we were in loss in case of angelino. even though doing business twice.

You’re not getting Delap mate and who replaces KDB? Please tell me it’s not Baena.

We wont be getting Wirtz either so its going to take a change in style imo. Pep mentioned a couple of weeks ago that no world class striker will come to City because Erling is here but we need another body and mentioned it would need to be someone who understood the role but would get game time and Delap if he was happy to do it would be the perfect choice and we have a £30m buy back?

I’d be amazed if Delap joins, he could start for 80% of teams in the league with his talent and the lack of strikers in the league. He isn’t going to come here to sit on the bench mate.

We need someone who can win the game by himself like young debruyne, salah, mbappe, vini jr, yamal, kane, palmer, Musiala etc. Or at least have that potential. We have haaland foden but haaland needs someone to create for him and foden is over hyped to fill the void of debruyne.

For Delap to come we would also have to show a major change in mentality. The idea that Haaland can play so often and so much needs to be addressed. If not, we’re inevitably going to have a repeat of what happened with Rodri and then be without him for a prolonged period. We need both more players and better players, and it wouldn’t hurt Haaland to have more competition.
