I was gutted when we sold him to the Saudi league following the treble season. I presume Pep deemed him below the four other centre halfs Stones, Ake, Dias, Akanji who were filling up many of the back 4 berths especially in the big matches, at Laporte's expense.

Given the way things have panned out this season with loss of form, injury, and the general sense of panic afflicting the whole of our defence, did we sell the wrong man? Eric was still in his prime, read any danger in advance, and always kept a cool head. I can't blame him for moving on but I do think he'd have been a big plus the way things are now.

He did lose his place due to injury.

How's he been since. He's dropped of the radar?

Statement of the obvious for todays situation ....didn't apply last year, or the year before or the year before that.

He wasn't first choice wanted to leave to be a regular starter, and brought a deal to the club that suited City.

We don't keep non playing players who are moping around the locker room/training ground, and who wish to leave.

Good player but apparently a bit of a smacked arse !!

Very good player who had some very big mistakes on big nights for the club

The game against Spurs in the champions league is probably this biggest couple he had

*could have done the quad that season with probably he best squad of players we have ever had

We could do with him now. I only but thought about him last week
He had a few mistakes in him but by and large I always felt better when he was in the team. I miss him, Vinny, Kun, Merlin, Zabba and Riyad.
Even prime Laporte struggled when teams got in behind us, he has slow on the turn and had little pace, but still a class act and the way he played through the pain barrier to take us to the title was incredibly brave and has probably cost him his career at the highest level.

We let him go but kept Akanji…. Laporte far superior
We got Akanji after Laporte had left and just on value for money alone up until late Akanji has been just a pivotal if not more to this team than Laporte ever was. For the 5 full seasons he was with us- Laporte was out well over half of 3 of those seasons.

I think there's a bit of re-writing history going on here.

Laporte was a very good player for us, and as others have mentioned playing through injury for us at a key time was commendable, as well as probably costly long term for the player.

But leading up to his departure errors, especially in big games, were becoming more frequent and he fell out of favour at a time we were firing on all cylinders. Gvardiol was also not far away. From what I recall, at the time most were sorry to see him go but also acknowledged it was probably the right time. I would disagree that he was in his prime when we sold him, with all due respect if he was then clubs across Europe would have been banging our doors down for him. They weren't, based on reports.
