Ah maybe my mistake that, saw Feb 23 on the first message and thought it was old.

If he said it back then he should have been in trouble, if he's said it now he needs to be getting it now.
 
Carragher is an absolute gobshite, a total cock and I don't want him on our screens anymore.
That being said, this is standard "lets all be offended over something we aren't even connected to" modern day society.
His point ultimately is that winning AFCON wouldn't set him apart to win the Balon D'or. History suggests that's the case because how many have won that and then won the award? Comparing it to the likes of Rodri who won the Euros and that was probably the deciding factor on him rightly winning it this year.

I don't watch a single minute of AFCON, the standard is poor and it is played whilst our season is still on which gets my focus. My memories of the last one was a referee unable to keep time correctly and blew up wrongly, twice. I only know that with it popping up on my socials. That doesn't mean it isn't big by the way. Nations with teams involved will value it highly and rightly so but for the Balon D'or it seemingly doesn't come into consideration.

There is just something about white Europeans decrying sporting events such as the AFCON that they really need to grow away from. Would I dream of going to China to visit my son and telling the locals that table tennis was not an important sport? No.
