The Squad planning thread

Think the Free 17 looks something like this give or take one or two, the new signing names might be different and maybe Bernardo goes too or maybe Kovacic stays.
Free list 17

What intrigues me more is what happens around the Association list, a case for any or all to be changed

association trained 4
  • AKE
  • GREALISH
  • STONES
  • CARSON

Can anyone enlighten me regarding squad rules? Is it as simple as we need 8 homegrown in a squad of 25?

Stones
Grealish
Ake
Foden
Carson
McAtee
Lewis
Mubama
Our current 8?

So if we sell/ release Carson Stones Grealish McAtee and maybe loan Mubama. We need 5 more homegrown players?

Would like to see a similar setup to how we played in the Chelsea game. I think it would allow us to get the best out of both Gvardiol and Cambiaso, who seems to be coming in the summer. Chevalier, Cambiaso, Baleba and Baena coming in (another CM and CB would be a bonus, but not necessity). We`d be looking at an starting 11 something like this (only showing strongest lineup, not depth):

Cambiaso inverting from RB to midfield, Gvardiol attacking LB/LW, Marmoush coming inside from LW as a secondary striker, similar to his role for Frankfurt. Foden/Baena in a free 10 role, Cambiaso adding more creativity in midfield to compensate for no KDB, and Baleba for duel winning, physicality, ground coverage and recovery pace

You can have a maximum of 17 non British or Welsh trained players.
You are allowed eight home grown players, although more than that can be registered but replace the non British or Welsh trained players.
For Europe, four of those home grown players must be club trained.
For players under the age of 21, other rules apply but they are that long I can't be arsed typing all the ins and outs of such.

More like who goes. Kev, Gundo, Bernie all had their day or too old. Walker and Phillips good as gone. Nunes, Kovacic and maybe Grealish just aren't delivering to the right standard. Likely one of Stones, Ake, Akanji unless injury problems can be resolved. Maybe a couple of the younger squad players. Critical summer ahead in relation to transfers.
We still keep one or two for next season. The question is who will stay. KDB is more likely to be moved on rather than be kept for one more season.

If Maresca gets fired, we need to get Cole back. Pep should call him and apologize for all his brain farts which kept world class player like Cole on the bench.

Would Delap count as “club trained” if he was to rejoin seeing as he’s from the academy?

So he pretty much does a glorified loan for 2 seasons and we eat another 80M+ since his values tripled since he's left?

What don’t people get about Palmer, first he isn’t getting out of that chelsea contract, without being shit, second there is no indication he wants to. Third if we buy Wirtz or similar we don’t want or need Palmer.
Palmer is gone never coming back FFS move on, Palmer and City have.

Would just having a British passport pass you as not being part of the 17?

You have to have been in a British or Welsh academy for three years before the age of 21.
For players under the age of 21, you need to have at least two years at that clubs academy to be eligible.
For example, Gael Clichy and Nathan Ake both registered as home grown via such rules.

Just to temper the immediacy of the non/FOC’s.
We may need more than next season before we return to the summit.
If this is the case though my wish is to see a stable and fit back five. Let’s work from the back and build a cohesive, talented and savvy defence without the need for seemingly multiple changes every week.
Although other positions are more glamorous I will be most interested in a right back and central defender this summer.
