The Squad planning thread

We signed 4 players in Janauary and only let 1 player leave, I think 4-5 signings and 7-8 out in the summer + Rodri back makes us title favourites again
depends if theplayers we sign are the right quality....keep signing potential and we will be fighting for top 4.....get established players who can go straight into the first team and maybe

e.g. difference between say a Nico Gonzales and a Savihnio - one looks like he could be already establised..the other looks like he is still trying to estabslih himself....no criticism of Sav as he is clearly less experienced but he aint a player who is going to have a consistent impact throughout the season....same as Doku for instance.

Start of the 26-27 season who is in the squad that is in the current squad?

GK - ?
Defence - Gvardiol, Dias, Khusanov, Reis
D/Midfield - Rodri, Nico
A/Midfield - Foden?, Bobb?, Echeveri, Omar
Attack - Haaland, Doku?, Savinho, Mubama
.
Three maybe still here - Foden has to sort himself next season, Bobb unlucky with injury, Doku needs to deliver end product.
Assuming Echeverri, Mubama and Reis all make it.

That's looking at least 6 outfield and 3 keepers short

think this rebuild need to be so much bigger than many expecting.
Many on here are expecting about half the squad to be shifted in one window. how much bigger are you proposing it should be than that?

I believe the total opposite, it doesn't need to be even close to the numbers many are suggesting. The starting 11 today had an average age of 24.7 and that's including the keeper and including kdb. That's a low age. We had three 20 year olds in the starting eleven and seven starters 24 or under. Add to that Haalands only 24, mcatee 22, bobb is 21 and reis and echeverri are 19. That's half a squad under the age of 25

For comparison Liverpool had an average age of 27.45 in their starting 11, they had just three players 24 or under, two of those being 24.

We've got some key players in key areas to replace but we're in a good spot overall, the idea we need half a squad shipped out is daft and the idea we would ship out that many at once is dafter still. They'll be around 3 or 4 signings tops imo, we aren't just going to suddenly get rid of everybody over 30.

Gk: Suzuki( I think Ortega will stay)
Defense: Vanderson/ Livramento, Huijsen. I think Akanji will 100% stay he has 2 years left and Stones will definitely wait until his contract ends. Ake only possible option would be a swap + cash for Huijsen I think.
Midfield: Bernabe + Santos ( by losing 2 8‘s we would need 2 8‘s to replace them. These two made a major leap this season.
A midfield: Baena/ Wirtz ( for creative output obviously

If Pep learns how to sub and rotate that would be more than enough players including someone like O’Reilly and Rico.

Assuming de Bruyne, Gundo, Kova, Walker, Phillips, Stones, and Nunes go, we hold onto Akanji and Grealish. Akanji stays because Ake (if he stays) and Dias can't really be trusted to stay fit. Grealish just because we're pretty sell staffed up front and have a lot of holes to address at keeper, defense and midfield.

Grealish tops the exit list. He will definitely leave this summer.
In my view he should have left last summer.

400-450 on 5 top players

offset by sales of
Ederson, Kova, Nunes, Stones, McAtee, Doku Philips, Perrone Grealish Bernie Doyle Lewis plus academy

If we could move them 200 to 300 net spend

In one go it will be a difficult task in replacing them in one window. Still got to keep a couple back in the summer the question is who do you keep?
More like who goes. Kev, Gundo, Bernie all had their day or too old. Walker and Phillips good as gone. Nunes, Kovacic and maybe Grealish just aren't delivering to the right standard. Likely one of Stones, Ake, Akanji unless injury problems can be resolved. Maybe a couple of the younger squad players. Critical summer ahead in relation to transfers.

Good post. Add Rodri to yesterday's team for KDB, a fit Dias and Haaland and we're more or less at a title winning XI again.

We'll still need a couple of high quality players to supplement that, but we aren't far away.

that is one hell of a team, but wont happen

i doubt we will spend 100mil for Bruno to have him as a 2nd team player
i would rather have Diogo Costa than Di Gregorio

Think Bruno has an agreement if Geordie s don't make chumps he can move to a chumps league team for 85 M
not enough info on either keeper just an example
Baleba reminds me of Yaya and only 20, would like him more than Wirtz

The rebuild is going to take some amount of years.

When you think of the players who are going to leave in the summer, its the bulk of the squad who have dominated English football for the last few years.
You don't just replace those players overnight. If it was that easy then Chelsea or United would be up there challenging given the money they've thrown at it.

When you strip it all back and look at those who are likely to stay next season, its a top 8 squad at best.
And given our recent success rate in transfers the last 2 years or so, there's no guarantee that we get every one right.

Top 8, lol.

Ederson,

Akanji, Khus, Dias, Gvardiol

Nico, Rodri,

Savio, Foden, Marmoush

Haalaand

Is a title-challenging XI.

We need a few good signings but the spine of our next league winning team is already there.

I don't see it like that.

There's no evidence to suggest yet that the three new signings in that team will be good enough for a title winning side.
Wait to see on all of them IMO

The over reaction of some is staggering. There’s work to be done for sure but some people want to throw the baby out with the bath water.

Gavrdiol
Khusanov
Dias
Reis (time will tell)
Rodri
Nico
Marmoush
Foden
Savio
Doku
Haaland
Bobb
Echeverri

There’s a ton of talent and potential in the squad already. The midfield balance needs sorting as a priority. One creative and one box to box. Sort that and the defence will instantly look better. Add to that we have the best midfielder in the world back next year and we won’t have to over play him now with Nico in the squad. Add in a full back or maybe even two and the squad will be looking much healthier.

The harder part will be getting any kind of money for those we do let go.
