Ramadan

Religious people do some very wierd things.
But the piont of this....
I have no idea.
I know the muslim lads I talk to in gambia have told me about it.
Said it was really hard to do.
The other lads who arent as religious says they're plastic Muslims so they carry on as normal anddrink every day
I thought they might be trying to starve out a tapeworm or something.

well,
i have the answer...

according to abdillah and his mate simo who joined us,
by undergoing this hardship you become stronger.
you overcome the urges of the body that normally controls you.
it gives you power over your self.

when i probed them more deeply,
i discovered that the reality is...
if they are caught going against it they end up in the slammer.

I don’t think it makes you stronger. I worked with a lad a few years ago that thought it was a good idea to fast in the middle of Aug on the job site. Daft **** passed out and fell of the roof.

My daughter just said no Muslims drink alcohol as it’s against their religion. I said loads do, she said well they’re not true Muslims.

Welcome to religion.
horseshit.
(no offence meant to your daughter bytheway)

i've been told by muslims i know well that,
unlike other religions which tell you what to fucking do all the time or you are going to hell,
with the exception of ramadan,
followers of islam can choose to be as muslim as they like.
if you want to go to the mosque, go.
if you don't, don't.
if you want to drink, drink.

the above, of course, does not apply to the extremist countries in which the law is religiously enforced.

To be honest, Ramadan isn't a million miles away from what Lent used to be, back in the day, when it was strictly enforced. No meat, no eggs, no dairy products, no nookie. Although I think I am right in saying that any high feast days during Lent were a 'holiday' from it.

What boggles my mind is what ordinary/poor people used to eat. Cabbage soup, probably.

In Tesco Middleton they have traditional dress for sale in the aisle along with a load of ingredients and treats.

A couple of old gammons were pissing and moaning about how it shouldn’t be there.

I love when shit like that winds people up.
it's curious that people think muslims only come from arabic countries.

zidane, pjanic, ribery, anelka, dzeko, to name but a few

i have visited maroc for many many years,
but as a drinker always avoided ramadan because of the booze mither.

as a resident now it'll be interesting to see how life changes

there must be other blues on here who live in muslim countries,
or even who are themselves muslim and could give some perspective on it.

Where do you live in Maroc mate? Visited loads of times always dreamed of moving over! Would love to hear more of your experience. Do you feel able to integrate and feel like a normal part of society?

Unfortunately not...it's all in the mind and the mind can be very strong and stubborn

We're due another big one so that the Abrahamic faiths can be marginalised once and for all. Perhaps this new one will pop up in Barnsley or Mablethorpe and the new messiah might be called Eugene and vote Green?
