President Trump

It's a psychodrama alright. Drama caused by a psycho.
How can Americans not see this. I know half the country do, but how can they put up with government being run as theatre.
Everything is played out to the camera.
The script is predictable as it basically involves projecting your own faults and outright corruption onto others.

The whole thing is badly acted, but a lot of America just seem used to bad acting and accept the poor script.

It’s actually nauseating to look from the outside in at the damage being done.

What are Americans supposed to do about it? A majority voted for him and here is. His approval is falling but then the next election is 4 years away however he will likely be nullified at the mid-terms. The only thing that Americans can do is endure.

As much as Trump is awful there is still a significant question as to what is the strength of the alternative? Trump is a worry but it's also a worry that the alternative is so incapable of cutting through him.

The entire western world has this problem actually. We have a government here with perhaps some of the lowest approval ratings of any 'new' government in history. That government was elected following a government which itself had very low approval ratings. There's a good argument here too as to why we the British put up with it?

It's no wonder that populism is on the rise when traditional politics just isn't asking the questions let alone finding answers.

It reminds me of that good old US comedy, SOAP.

If regular people believe obvious, provable lies, ignore decades of history, ignore even an attempt to negate the results of a legitimate election by the candidate in question, what exactly are Democrats supposed to do? The whole system relies on trust. At some point you have to rely on people seeing the nose on their face. Too many didn’t and couldn’t and here we are. As such, we’ll all suffer the consequences, including many of those who voted for him, and it will take their own suffering to change their minds. Or maybe not; at this point, I don’t know what it will take to change their minds.

It's a legitimate point, although I'd say not being Trump is a better alternative to Trump without anything else to offer.

But the Democrats, or the remaining actual (non Maga) Republicans need to organise, and do much better.

The answer is to try PR

Well one good example is border encounters and illegal migration. It was an important issue and what was the Harris/Democrat solution to the below graph? If I thought illegal migration was a problem and I had to go on perceptions alone then I'd say Trump was stronger so surely therefore I'd vote for Trump?

It isn't good enough or powerful enough to say that nobody should vote for Trump and so therefore you have to vote Democrat. If I fundamentally dislike gender politics for example then why would I vote for somebody on the polar opposite end of it? To some people on many issues Trump was actually the lesser evil.

We're having the same problem on immigration in the UK. The last government had no idea and the current one doesn't either so they just ignore it. The only party offering some sort of solution is Reform and that's why they're leading the polls. If the status quo remains until the next election (which it probably will) then there is a real possibility that Reform could win power. The same is happening across Europe with the far-right rise and populism.

See my comment above. Whatever and whoever the Democrats or non-MAGA Republicans (possibly an oxymoron at this stage) put up, MAGA will lie and lie and lie and lie and lie and lie and lie and MAGAites will believe them. So how do you win?

If it was more about these fundamental policy issues then the Democrats lost because they provided the wrong answers and thought pulling out Beyonce would make the difference.

Yeah, in fact, it’s good enough. Because we vote for people, not policies, for President.

Or you can just be an “ends justify the means” type like Dax. Then the people don’t matter.

The problem with Trumps lies are that they're easier to do when you're in opposition than when you're in power.

Maga morons will believe him no matter what, but when your average swing voters realises his lies have only resulted in bad things for them, the country and the world it will change.

A viable opposition has to be ready, and I'm not sure the Democrats are yet. Dressing in pink and holding up paddles isn't going to win them swing votes and I feel they still need to work out how they're going to approach the next few years.

Sensible republicans are probably a longer term project.
