Major changes in defense and midfield are required , it will take a few transfer windows and I suspect very few of the current squad with the emphasis on few will be at the club when we win our next title , cannot see Ederson for one being at the club next year unless we cannot get a much better replacement which I am confident we can.

As you say we laud the players we have they have had all their drive and energy and will to win sapped out of them and many of them are a shadow of what they were as recent as two seasons ago and they have done all the can , no need to live in hope that some of them have title winning football left in them its over as the Big O used to sing.

Sometimes I think how good were we at football, how dominant were we? when we somehow won 5 PL in 6 years with a goalkeeper with shot stopping ability of a bottom half goalkeeper and that was in his prime. It always felt like if the opposing team had 5 shots on target, were conceding at least 2. I’ve always heard the phrase, the best teams have a great goal keeper, that has to be a lie cos the 3 best teams of the last 20 years, are Man City 2018-24, Madrid 2013-2018 and Barca 2008-2011, all these teams had average keepers. Valdes, Ederson, Navas. I guess if you have a world class midfield, you really don’t need a world class goalkeeper to succeed. We no longer have a world class midfield, we gonna need a world class keeper. You can’t fake your way out of it now Eddie

Pep’s whole philosophy is keeping the ball as far away from our own goal as possible. When we’re dominant, it works perfectly and that’s why we suffocate teams to the extent of no attacks.

Now we’re not dominating, teams get at us easier and it highlights the need for a reliable keeper. Which we don’t have.

I love him. But he’s not been reliable since we got him. That’s not his strength and, until this season, we’ve not needed it to be.
 
Genuinely one of the best reaction saves I've ever seen, many cannot appreciate the sharpness involved in that as it's coming through several bodies. That then makes getting beat by a relatively bog standard shot at his near post even more inexcusable. Got to be saving that

Along with Pep’s penchant for weird team selections in big European games, Ederson is probably the biggest reason we’ve underachieved in the Champions League over the past decade. Go back annually to each knockout and you’ll generally see at least one error/weak goal conceded.

Our previous overwhelming quality protected him in the same way Barca’s did with Valdes - now we’re more mortal domestically, he’s being exposed regularly.

Ederson is an average keeper ...
Martinez and Alison are levels above him .
He was always protected because he faced the fewest shots of any goalkeeper in PL .

His record in saving penalties alone is a joke .

I would say Allison isn't any better and we have smashed plenty of records with Eddy being first choice. Same with Martinez too.

The first part true, not so sure on the second.

It’s hard to judge when one has just made a big mistake and one has had the game of their life.

Allison to me is a world class GK and one of the best one v one I have seen. He saves that lot countless time, but as all players he has made mistakes.

Ederson is not at his level shot stopping or one v one, but nowhere near as bad as some say and he pulls of some amazing saves. We know what his strength is and it’s been a privilege having a GK that good with his feet.

So whilst Allison for me is the better GK, who knows what would have happened if we had him instead of Ederson.

But our achievements are off the scale, so we must have had the balance right.

100 points? 4 consecutive titles? You still need a reliable keeper and Eddy has mostly been that. He even replaced Allison as Brazil's first choice keeper for while despite the noise coming out of the red side of Merseyside.

I agree with you, whilst my opinion Allison is the better GK.

I totally disagree but they are similar if I am being less biased. Plenty of high profile mistakes from Allison too.
 
We can’t afford to carry him any longer

He was never that good at stopping shots, but this season he’s sunk to an all time low.

Unreal with his feet and gets the odd great assist, but as I said, we can’t afford to carry him any longer. Need a replacement in the summer.
