I agree partly but I think back to seasons like 19/20 when the team was in a horrific place and KDB still managed a standout year despite those conditions. Even pre Pep days I recall the likes of Silva and Aguero still producing very good individual seasons.

Foden, alongside Haaland who still is scoring goals, should be our marquee player for the next 10 years. However, this season and the Euros has put a huge question mark on that for me. His game has fundamentally regressed and he seems to lack the footballing IQ to be effective without ideal conditions.
I think you nailed it in your last sentence. Nothing against Phil but he isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer imo.

We simply have too high expectations from someone who, to put it mildly, has no real potential to make it happen. He will never, ever be at the level of play that KDB and David Silva showed. And of the current players, he will never have the impact on the game and the efficiency shown by Wirtz, Musiala and Bellingham.
Overrated by us. Good squad player.

He won't every individual player of the year award there is to win last season.

Got exposed during the euros but it was Southgate‘s fault apparently when Bellingham, Saka and Palmer outplayed him.

I rated him that highly from him first getting into the team i still expected more to come from him than that. Obviously i wasn’t complaining as his goal record and the amount of wonder strikes were astounding. I just thought he also had the ability to dominate games and really display his eye for a pass whilst skinning your average centre mids. That’s what makes watching him now even more bizarre for me because based on natural ability i don’t think he’s ever been over rated.

That's some serious revisionism. When he broke through he looked like he would become world class

None of them outplayed him, they were all shit apart from the odd goal.
Stats and performance show otherwise but it’s okay. He is the golden „ boy „ after all. Only offensive player who was criticized but no one outplayed him. The game went past him. Every chances were created by either Saka or Bellingham. Foden was an absolute non factor like he always has been for the national team.

Sick of hearing people say that the whole team has been shite, so somehow that allows him a free pass

He's now one of the most experienced players at the club, in terms of games played and trophies won

His job now is to galvanise the team and lead by example when things are difficult; which are traits I don't think he has

He plays on the coat tail of other top players when they're at the top of their game

I've no doubt that he'll perform a bit better next season, once Rodri is back and we sign a couple of star players that enables him to ride the coat tails again

His performances won us the league last year. What a really shitty post.

On this season's showing you don't build a team around him as the creative linchpin of your midfield as we did Kev or Silva. No shame in that, but if he wasn't a boyhood blue it wouldn't be even up for debate. We are likely going to have to go in to the market and spend £150m for a player we can build around. Hopefully they can play together and hopefully Phil can hit his heights, but this was the season where he was meant to be the man and he's miles off it. He'll still do special things with us, and there is still time for him to step up and become that player, but he's running out of runway if he wants to be an all-time great.

Never seen a player this good be as timid or have as fragile confidence as foden is. I’m worried there might be a touch of Eden hazard about him or maybe he’s won too much too soon. Either way he needs a big season next year

Thing is if we do sign someone for big money who is the creative midfielder we so badly miss without Kev being the superstar he was for years. Then Foden only has one position he can realistically get in to the team and that is on the right. As you wouldn’t play him centrally then as he no longer looks physically capable of doing the graft that would be required in there alongside said creative player.

Tbf Hazard was levels above Foden.
