But that still begs the question, if chaos is the endgame, then why? He has plenty of opportunities other than this tariff merry-go-round for personal gain. This madness is f**king up Wall Street and Main Street! His poll numbers are heading south, he's pissing off his friends and making new enemies, he's thrown away America's considerable soft power and despite promising to avoid war, he has simultaneously threatened to use U.S hard power with Canada and Greenland.

Anybody thought that he’s the head conspiratorial nutjob, not just plying it as part of his strategy, but actually believes all the stuff he comes out with?

Looks to me that American has voted for the insane to takeover the asylum.

Because the dude thinks that tariffs are the solution... either outright, as evinced by his still-standing tariffs against Chinese imports first imposed during his initial term in office, or as a threat to gain negotiating leverage.

Amongst all the chaos and lies it's becoming increasingly difficult to work out what their endgame is. What the f**k does this cast of crazies and criminals want?

Trump has pissed off Mexico, Canada, most of Europe and now Australia, to what end? Six weeks in is America stronger? If not what is the path to this stronger America? Seriously, if these are the first steps on a longer journey I can't see it.

Trump babbles on about globalists and forcing them to bring production back to the USA, threatening them with tariffs one day, then "temporarily" backing down the next. Another day, another day of manufactured crisis and uncertainty, it's a madness, it's all becoming a blur.

Where is he going with this?
He is utterly convinced he’s the world’s greatest negotiator and has transferred his “talents” from stiffing contractors in the real estate business and his other failed ventures to using the same techniques of bullying and creating chaos on the world stage. He never accepted the consequences of his appalling business acumen due to him always blaming others for failures and by using other people’s money.

He thinks he’s infallible whereas in reality he’s been at the peak of “Mount Stupid” on the Dunning Kruger curve all his life. His only talent is being able to bullshit gullible idiots, and malign actors behind the scenes have tried to use this to their advantage by manipulating him. Sadly for them he’s too much of a loose cannon to deliver what they want in the long run. In the meantime though he’s going to cause untold shit and a lot of people will die or be poorer unnecessarily.

Surely tariffs are a tactic, they're not a strategy (though they are with China) but even if they are strategic, to threaten them only to withdraw them again gives him very little leverage. If his goal is to bring back production to the USA he has to follow through and he has to hold his nerve over time as the shock waves hit and manufacturers realise he means it and they bring investment home.

More likely he's the figurehead while the dangerous people are slashing and burning their way through the controls on power.

A ban on giving govt contracts to any lawyer/firm assisting with a case contesting the govt actions is already ordered - deny them legal and financial backing, and keep burning.
Oh, and an EO requiring people to put up a bond prior to going to court, a bond that would have them agree to cover the govt legal fees if an injunction is issued (thus pricing individuals/small pressure groups out of opposing)

They could easily sell it to him as a Rushmore-worthy sacrifice to 'save' the country, and he can still grift millions while he does it.

Yep. When you surround yourself with people like Vance, who has his own agenda, and plies his own version of the truth, then you’re not going to get a clear picture, then taking action on assumptions, rather than facts.

Trump does seem to believe in tariffs as a strategy to reduce taxation and bring back jobs which have been offshored. It goes like this:

1. Impose tariffs on imports, which are paid by the exporting country
2. Use the money to reduce domestic taxation
3. Higher costs for imports stimulates domestic investment and employment.

Brilliant, right? No obvious flaws or lessons from history to learn here.

There're no adults in the room anymore.

The problem is that Trump has no concept of these low paid manufacturing jobs. Tariffs are blunt instruments and everything gets picked up. So all the cheap little plastic components that are manufactured in China become more expensive. And that trickles up so everything becomes more expensive.

Are Americans going to take jobs in dirty smelly plants making little components. And if they do on what wages? A quick Google tells me that the average salary in China is 15k usd per annum. In the US its 65k usd. So either Americans take shitty pay ans shitty work or the cost of little things has to go up exponentially.

It's just not going to happen. The only conceivable outcome is price rises.

Agreed.

It's a testimony to how screwed up this is, that you end up in knots trying to work out his rationale, so much so that you begin giving this pile of crazy some 3D chess credibility, before realising nah! It's just nuts.

The fact that Trump still insists that countries are paid by the country goods are imported from should tell you everything you know about the 4d chess theory.

That’s why they don’t want the minimum wage raised above $7.50, also they will need to build factories etc who’s investing in all that if the next president dumps it all? Items are cheap for a reason the Labour as yiu say in China is slavish, prices will ticket when Americans want paying a decent wage to do it.

The price of 1 egg in USA can buy 8 in China. Two entirely distinct economic system. America's economy is the envy of the world, and their electricity generation remains nearly constant during the past 10 years. But China, one third of the planet's electricity is generated by this one country alone! If the America want to play in the "China Mode", they have a long way to go. It's far more complex than the "low wage" or "dirty slave labor".

Oh, he’ll be back. Wait til you make some factual error. Besides, he promised he’d never leave the thread no matter what.
I'm here. Always!
Just dont see much happening. So no need to engage. Besides like Ks said, the other forums are currently more interesting.

When it gets interesting here, I'll comment.
