The Labour Party

They invariable do. Germany is the top ranked destination followed by Spain, France and Italy.

I blame our lousy weather for ranking so low. Austria take more than us and the country is the size of a postage stamp and mainly mountains. Good for skiing, though.
Austria take over a million immigrants a year? Really
The Tory plan to send refugees to Rwanda was even more stupid then. Rwanda is more densely populated than Britain.
It was a deterrent and their were signs it was working before it was cancelled.

We could pass a law declaring the moon is made of cheese for all the bleeding good it would do - bit like the illegal Migration Act of 2023.

Also, the UK, as a signatory to the 1951 Refugee Convention, has a legal obligation to consider asylum claims from people who arrive on its territory, regardless of how they arrived.

Bit of a contradiction it would seem.
Not arguing semantics Bob fact is it is illegal to enter UK in a small boat however you want to dress it up.

.... especially if you rock up with no identity papers.

For all we know we could be admitting rapists, murderers, terrorists... you just don't know. and probably none will have the requisit professional skills such as plumbing, electricians, roofers and builders. Those that have those skills can come here legitimately complete with necessary documentation.

Asylum seekers not immigrants.

Ah, the scheme to send 200 people to Rwanda that cost the UK around £240m. We did send a couple of people if I recall, or rather we paid them to go. Yes, I’m sure the thousands who risk their lives to cross the channel were deterred by the 0.001% chance they may get sent to Rwanda. Although, it was deemed illegal by our Supreme Court and broke our Treaty obligations and international law.

But hey, we got to send a mini bus of people to Rwanda at a staggering, stupid amount of money.

I can picture the scene in Kabul as Ahmad pops down to the passport office to get his visa and relevant documentation.

Hafez (the passport guy): Reason for wishing to leave our glorious Islamic paradise?

Ahmad: Well I worked for the British during the occupation and our Govt has placed a bounty on my head.

Hafez: Of course, of course. Please make you way into the courtyard through that door and the men there will be only too happy to assist you on your way.

Ahmad: Thank you! Praise be to Allah!

Love how you guys think fleeing your country is like booking a two week holiday in Tenerife.

I know there is a national shortage of Barbers, taxi drivers and kebab shop owners:-)

Correct.

Labour shortages are hindering economic growth for UK food and drink producers, with the Food & Drink Federation (FDF) estimating a loss of £1.4 billion in output due to shortages in the last year’

We don't want a world of long haired walking vegans for sure although I must admit i have yet to hear anyone say they are struggling to find a donner and fries ever.

I wonder what % of the estimated £1.4 billion is made up of the unnoticed epidemic of kebab shop closures that have left a huge hole on our high streets.

The food industry is much bigger than just the 30 or so kebab shops/takeaways we have on just on the main street we have around the corner from where I live.
And don't get me started on the rats.

30 or so Kebab shops/takeaways around the corner from where you live? Sounds like paradise. Apart from the rats that is :)

I'm perhaps a bit biased; can't stand kebabs or even much other fast food to be honest. And about 30 is probably an underestimation...truly!
Honestly believe it's been a blight on society; obesity, litter, etc etc.

And I've seen more rats here in 6 years than I ever saw where I used to live.

There was proof it was working, but I can't defend the cost. The alternative is what exactly? I can't see one, it could be labours downfall.

If by proof you mean record number of crossings then no it wasn’t working. From the BBC.

In April 2022, the government said that any asylum seeker entering the UK "illegally" after 1 January 2022, from a safe country such as France, could be sent to Rwanda

The government says the plan will deter people arriving in the UK on small boats across the English Channel, a key priority for Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

As of 11 June, 11,247 people had crossed the Channel in 2024 - above the numbers for the same period in the previous four years.’

As a side note, it seems Govts of whatever persuasion will be judged on trying to do the impossible. Brexit, small boat crossings, harnessing mythical moon power or whatever.

At some point, the insanity will have to stop. We can start with small boat crossings because the answer to that is to allow safe passage or processing in France. Why don’t we do that? The answer is that we don’t want any foreign people coming here and claiming asylum and we pretend it’s concern about unsafe channel crossings. Small boat crossings drive people mad because every crossing is seen as a visible failure to keep foreigners out. Even more so now given Brexit failed to live up to its billing.

Small boat crossings are the Dunkirk spirit in reverse.

Proof as in it was starting to act as a deterrent. But it wasn't given time. The way it was enacted and what it cost I can't defend. Interesting to see what Labour come up with as numbers seem to be increasing. As I stated it could be their downfall as illegal immigration is not popular with the voters.

Its really bizarre that you believe they are all asylum seekers and not illegal economic migrants?
