Brighton and Hove Albion PL (H) | Post Match Thread

A lot of empty seats in the yesterday, knew it wouldn’t take long before the day trippers and glory hunters disappeared, the new stand extension could well be a white elephant. Must be some worried people on the board .

The club can't have it all ways. If they treat supporters as just customers, with no loyalty in how long they've supported the club and price them out for tourists prepared to pay the higher price, empty seats like yesterday is the consequence. On a bitterly cold day against unglamorous opposition ( Sorry Brighton but to a tourist you are) they just don't want to attend. Add to that the team are playing not very attractive football atm and losing or scraping draws then people stay away. If they want a razzamataz theme park then don't be surprised when the star acts become jaded and aged and the weather is shit that the customers seek entertainment elsewhere.
I've read we have 37,000 season ticket holders in a 52,000 capacity stadium. Take away 3,000 for away fans and that's 12,000 tickets to shift. Everybody can watch and stream every game free of charge somewhere these days, either at home, in a pub or at a mates. So it's £60 to freeze your bollocks off watching an underperforming team play Brighton and enduring the joys of public transport to get there and back, or stay in the warmth and spend less than that on a few beers, or with your feet up on the settee. Hence the empty seats.

Pep can see the physical and mental state Grealish is in off the field and that’s why he is not picking him. You must be aware that Grealish has got problems.
Some players with "problems" have responded well to being selected. They've said it helped bring some normality to their lives when they've struggled away from the game.
This has applied to players from many clubs not at City.

Grealish seems to be mentally and physically unfit at the moment. He looked shattered in his recent appearances. Pep and the coaches see him every day. I get your point. Playing was a distraction for Gascoigne and Rooney and both unravelled faster when they retired. Pep suggested he was sad about the situation with Grealish on and off the field yesterday.

It’s sad to see our once reliable defence( especially at home ) reduced to our second goal conceded, where two Brighton players left unmarked in 6 yard box from a corner….please, I don’t care who is out, Dias, Guardiol are international players, how is that gap left.you have to wonder about our defensive coaches, looking at the horrendous goals conceded this season. They all train side by side every day, so whoever is in should know his place.
Like like like like like like

Think people mistake and conflate the winning 4 titles in a row as some sort of 'get out' that we are playing absolutely shite football tbh.

Yes we won the titles previously, I personally don't care if we never win another in my lifetime, I do however want to see us play some football that is at least entertaining. If that means getting beaten, absolutely fine, but this shit show we are getting served up isn't entertaining in the least, all I hear is passing stats are great, expected goals etc. In truth its fucking awful, sideways, slow build up, passing for the sake of passing and unable to do basic shit like defending, attacking corners, free kicks... Basically everything Pep has always said he doesn't want his teams to play if you read his books, so change it up a bit Pep, please!

Doku and Savinho aren't starters in any of the other top teams in footy either, if this is the system we are going with it requires wingers that actually have end product. They need to spend every training session practicing shooting under pressure.
'Expected goals' is the most stupid of all meaningless stats - well it probably is, I've never bothered to read the algorithm.

'Expected Crosses' would be an eye opener, though...

What I find odd is that Savinho and Doku are playing every week. OK, we paid substantial money for them, but they're still kids, and they're not world-class exceptions to the rule.

Meanwhile, Nico O'Reilly, who is at least decent, doesn't get a sniff of a start. Doesn't usually get brought on either.

Ah, well.

Too many of our so called fans have short term memory losses and are beginning to sound every much as we all said we hope we never become, like them twats over at Trafford ... self entitled fuckers.
Oakie, when you saw the team did you feel confident ?
I don't know whether you class me as per your post but I was dreading the match.
4-2-4 ! One of the mids being Gundo.
Despite months of mediocre performances Pep stuck to the same small bunch of players including Bernie as the first sub.
His refusal to try a different player is being stubborn beyond belief.
If he has fallen out with Grealish, don't even put him in the squad.
Rico cannot play full back full stop so why persist with him there ? Try something different.
Surely after 7 days rest, Kdb can manage more than 10 minutes. If not ..........
The entire reason this thread exists is so supporters can say what they think. If we force posters to only post positives woth no moans/criticism allowed we are RAWK.

Personally, I find XG quite useful.

You can have a team have 70% of possession as opposition have wanted to play on the counter so they were happy to concede possession.
The team with 70% also have 30 shots, which looks great on paper but they could be all from 30 yards.
These stats would lead you to believe they should have won.
But if there XG is shown as 0.6 (as an example) it gives more body and insight into the other statistics, showing that they did nothing with the possession and struggle to create clear cut chances.

XG gives a good insight into who’s had the better chances.

But I agree just using it in isolation and saying. This teams XG is 3 and the other teams XG is 2.5 so the team with the higher XG should have won isn’t probably the best way to use it.

All empires eventually bring down themselves, through decadence and self indulgence. We’re now seeing the result of some staggering arrogance and complacency on and off the pitch since the treble.
Might not be just the dressing room that needs a clearout and major refresh this summer. Coaching (especially defensively and set pieces), recruitment and scouting teams all clearly need a lot of improvement.
This Empire will strike back, it started in January and will continue in the summer

I also think we're suffering to a degree from the fact that teams know how to play against us, i.e. put ten men behind the ball and hit us on the break.
Nonsense. That was the case for years but nowadays any half decent side are having a go. Plenty of times yesterday a break was on but we just slow the game down and give them a chance to regroup. Coupled with players who haven't the ability or confidence to play a through ball when haaland breaks (ala Doku yesterday). There's far too much wrong for it to be bad luck, injuries, refereeing decisions.
Mind boggling how poorly coached we look this season.

Don’t underestimate the charges and the noose like effect they’ve had on our necks.

No top player will touch us while that noose demo in remains in place.

We’ve had to work around that noose since early 2023.

Ah, well.
Stop making excuses for Doku. He's 23 in May and has been a professional footballer since 2018-9. If he cannot hack it now he never will

I ain't making excuses for him. I'm questioning why he's playing every week, when (despite his ball skills) he delivers little. He isn't world-class, he's more of a backup player. But he's still relatively young, though I admit not quite as young as I thought.

Pep needs a reality check, we are slipping back to the awful form of October/ November.

It is not inconceivable that next season Rags are in CL and we are in that awful fucking Thursday/ Sunday cycle.

Playing shit team and no big TV games.

Income will plummet.

Sleep walking into a disaster.

This can be traced back to that farcical Cup Final.

If we remained professional for 1 more week instead of sulking about CL exit we would have won the Cup against a shit Rags team and they wouldn't be in this position.

Older and unfit plays should have been shipped out last Summer.

Haha this forum a full of none city fans or deluded

Typical this-season City.

Pretty good play - missing some sitters for whatever reason - undone by inexplicable gaffs.

This late in the season, the table does not lie. We're - IMO - actually much better off than our ability due to a run of luck in our opening fixtures.

Still, we improved a lot in the Winter window. And our run-in is very favorable.

I think we'll finish top 4 - but I wouldn't be overly surprised if we fail to qualify for the C/L (likely 6th or worse).
