Andy Burnham | Manchester Mayor

Traffic jams can’t be predicted, not the severity of them, or a dickhead causing an accident, or traffic lights breaking down …

Mate, I’ve worked in logistics for over 20 years you really can. I’m not saying 100% on time but you really can predict, rush hour, seasonal, special events & out of the ordinary incidences are harder but it can be done better.

I’ve also worked in industries where we were told you can’t predict & it’s surprising how predictable it is.

I don’t think it’s the mayors job but the fleet controller should be all over it.

I’d be happy if the missus stamped my card a bit more often & if she could be arsed analysing the Rags I’d compliment her more often.

The justification for the regeneration was so wild it had to be bullshit but it’s good to see thorough analysis.

These things are always bullshit as you know. Bloody consultants. What we need to see are the nuts and bolts of the two projects. I suppose they will appear gradually, as long as people keep looking.

Freightliner have completely lucked out here, because the value of their land just skyrocketed.

The new proposals have the entire site covered in apartments. They are going to make a fortune on this.

They could even sell it plot by plot, instead of a job lot.

I actually think your being a bit generous to the rags and nicking some of the freight terminals land (based on earlier press talk of the new build/update old Trafford where they discussed what land they owned) and I think it's more like this (guesstimate not accurate).

I make it that at least half (possibly more) of the new stadium sits on the land of the freight terminal)

You can add in time to the schedules (and they do for peak times) but that means buses may have to keep stopping at the timing stages otherwise they’ll get ahead of themselves. That makes journey times too long to attract people out of their cars and is particularly annoying when you’re making an onward connection. All I’m really saying is that with modern bus tracking apps, it’s best to just have the fastest schedules and not worry too much about what you can’t control.

He was talking about 4 buses on the same route bumper to bumper & none in the other direction every day.

Those special events occurring every Match/concert with weeks of forward notice still not being planned for certainly indicate the incompetence of those in charge of the public transport system. And although not his personal responsibly I would argue it was his responsibility to put competent people in place which he failed to do and therefore the buck stops with him, therefore imo he's still be a big mouthed egotistical bullshitting scouse twunt.

I concur, simple kpis implemented by him to manage performance & resources.

Who owns all the land that the TFT curent sits on shown in yellow? Ragland is owned by the Rags shown in red Image 3-17-25 at 3.20 PM.jpeg

Exactly he's been championing the Bee Network so its up to him to explain to the customers what the issues are

Get off the fence man.

This **** needs an investigation into every deal. Reminds me of another Scouse Mayor who used his position to benefit himself.
It was all done in public papers, the commercially sensitive stuff was in a part 2 report (confidential) but it was as transparent as possible with full loan amounts and units in part 1, just not repayment terms.
Where's he getting the money from to lend to developers?
It is the £300m Housing Investment Loan fund which predates Burnham, and was the first bit of devolved funding for GM which come from the DCLG at the time (now MHCLG) in 2016. The fact it has been recycled, paid back with interest to GM and already worth £800m shows it has been successful, and has helped provide for multiple schemes of different types in all 10 districts.

The criticism over the last year has been the amount of loans to Renaker for large city centre developments when it was aimed at SME builders. If there has been lots of SME builders whose schemes would qualify lining up for the cash they would be likely to have got it, but as demand wasn't excessive it was better to have someone using the money and paying it back quickly with interest then have it spare. It is really a massive non-story, and the Government gets it all back in the end.

I have figured out how the £7.3b figure is derived - it includes the sale of the club and all the associated costs of the deal (which obviously should be paid for by the owners of the club but we have already seen precedent for this) once Jim and his American friends get the government grants and planning permission and several billons in profit!

Laing O’Rourke has become the first major contractor to publicly declare an interest in building Manchester United’s new ground.

The firm is an early favourite for the job given it has recently completed Everton’s new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock in Liverpool.

Laing O’Rourke’s group commercial and Europe hub clients and markets director, John O’Connor, told Building: “We are always interested in opportunities that align to our business model and allow us to deploy our extensive capabilities in project delivery, manufacturing and utilising modern methods of construction. Such an approach allowed us to deliver Everton’s new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock earlier than scheduled.
