Club World Cup - Summer 2025

Club Leon from Mexico, and who were in Chelsea's group, have been removed from the tournament for breaching multi-club ownership rules.

Cue UK journalists lobbying for them to do the same to us and replace with their beloved dippers.

I do. The first proper Club World Cup. It will become huge. All the biggest clubs are there and to win the first one would be huge.

It will probably have it's own lineage in time where it's considered a separate/different trophy & competition to the one held before it.

In time it could be considered a huge accolade, and with it being held every 4 years, it won't be easy to qualify for and so even taking part will have a positive reflection on the image of the clubs who are there.

Being backed by FIFA means it will succeed. The UK press may mock it but they are always behind the curve. The little Englanders slagged off European football for decades. We are always late to the party. This World Cup will be huge in years to come.

That team will never be allowed to play.

The club have signed a contract by all accounts that recognised and senior names have to play.
Thanks for your input.
Saying that all but one have played for the Ist team and he is our next superstar??

If we play our regular team we risk them being burned out for next season? Also I would argue that all my team could well be regulars for next season?

I think there is a risk of burnout so how Pep deals with it I don't know.

I do think however there will be stipulations where you can't have more than 3 players who have only had less than 5-10 caps this season play for example. Basically whatever it takes avoiding the European clubs playing loads of kids and reserves.

I think there will stipulations in our contract with FIFA that Haaland, Foden etc etc have to play so many minutes in a game, likely 45 mins.

There is too much money in this tournament alongside extortionate ticket prices for this competition to be treated like a set of friendlies and pre-season and if we don't meet requirements there will penalties that have to paid.

FIFA want this tournament to become the biggest tournament in club football, so I am expecting severe and stringent guidelines all clubs will have to abide by.

We'll find away around your last paragraph ;-)

I wonder what impact long term this tournament could have for certain continents if a success. I am thinking mainly South America who produce a high percentage of the best talent but end up selling them for such small fees (in comparison). If the prize money continues to be high and the exposure increases then it could be a game changer for them.

It a money making scam

They had many clubs saying they would fuck it off early doors as no one wamted extea pointless games until they offered massive paydays and incentives

They shoehorned Inter Miami in on a technicality so Messi would be able.to be used to give it some global interest

It's fucking up the tsansfer window and disrupts participant preperations for the new season.

Lastly Hosting it in America to court sponsprships and the ridiculously priced tickets will see less proper fan engagement, as itnisn't national teams you won't get the ame as say an ashes tour or the euros or world cup where a core large group will travel over for it.

It shite, it's mainly unwanted by Players, fans and clubs admittedly mostly in Europe where the existing club world cup is considered meaningless, nice to have the gold shield on your top for a year but be realistic, winning it ain't as important as your domestic league or cup or the champions league.

I mean if we were not in it you wouldn't even hear about it as it is hardly grabbing the attention of fans of clubs not participating, no broadcaster has taken a serious interest to show it and the silly rules (special kits, strongest squads, etc) have give it a negative press.

I would rather we had rest time for a title charge and won't be sad if we go out early

You are entitled to you opinion but you don’t speak for all fans and players.

never said I did.

People are free to enjoy it and if we get to the final I hope we win it, but I would take a caribao cup and Europa league (if we don't get top 5) cup win next season over this any day of levels of importance to me

And yes it is mostly some european fans are being snobby about it, like they have allways been about this competiton, I,hope every fan excited and engaged by it has a great time following it around the world.

Yet another chance for tiredness and injuries to develop. It's a glorified Charity Shield.
That’s what the Football League Chairman, Alan Hardaker, said (not his exact words) about the European Cup in 1955 when he denied Chelsea the right to play in the inaugural competition.

The first final got 127,000 attendance at Hampden between Madrid and Frankfurt, and it soon became the biggest most prestigious club competition in the world.

I think this competition can become as big as the Champions League and International World Cup. We may look back at playing in the very first one as a great honour.

I do think there’s too much football. However, I think there’s mainly too much international football, with the quality of which being poor. Club football is miles better than international football. I’d rather watch a Club World Cup over an international World Cup, any day.
