Either a woman or a rag or dipper.
The obvious bias towards certain teams make you sick

Then the stopping speaking so we can listen to you'll never murder alone is an absolute fucking joke.
Do they think fans of every team gives a fuck about a load of Scandinavian and Irish tourist singing a song that was sung by almost every club in the country at one time .
Ive said loads of times.
I have IPTV.
I will not watch anything on sky sports.
Or tnt.
I watch every game on optus or whatever foreign channel.
Turn it on at kick off.
Off at half time .
Back on for the 2nd half.
Back off at full time

I was looking for music for my mothers funeral. Clicked on a website and You'll Never Walk Alone is apparently the most popular song to be played at funerals. Not in Italy I would think

Turned on the Wales game on BBC Wales. lasted 2 minutes due to a female co commentator who just wouldn’t shut up.
Now watching it on S4C and even with Welsh commentary its much better.
Why any game needs a co-commentator baffles me, most enjoyable games cor me are when your given the option of crowd noise only.
So many games i stop watching due to who is commenting as i just cannot listen to alot of them.

So true. Women commentators never stop talking or shouting ..
And where did the co commentator thing come from ,no need for them ,the old solo live commentary was best.

I used to like Brian Moore ,not cos he was brilliant but because he gave a sense of really enjoying his job ,really got caught up in the excitement,.....he was very funny as often he didn't actually see who scored a goal and his commentary would often be it's a goal !! It's in there , it's er ..er . ,looks like ....er smith

Think his eyesight was prob poor but great fun all the same.

Was it Motson after Liam Brady scored a belter screamed Look at that , just look at that !! Brilliant

It was Motson ..Spurs 0 Arsenal 5 at white hart lane ( how sad am I to remember that ?) late 70s
Brady has the ball on the edge of the area ,and just decided to shoot with the outside of his left foot ,sending a long range swerving shot flying into the net in front of away support in Paxton end
It was outrageous,totally unexpected,and fully deserved motsons delirious response

I think the worst thing about football coverage is how censored players and managers are in interviews and even on the pitch.

Can’t say bad word about referees, the opposition, the FA or the premier league.

Hence we get the most wooden soundboard responses and never get to see the real truth.

Like most trends in British television, it came from America. NFL coverage started using a ‘color commentator’ in the 1960s, alongside the main caller of the game.

They were often hugely respected ex players/ coaches like John Madden and they had a specific role, completely different to the main commentator.

Somewhere along the line, TV executives over here have clearly thought they need to move with the times and also have two in the booth.

But it seemed like instead of actually studying the model of American TV, they just stuck a second guy in there and thought that was job done.

The result is we’re treated to an endless parade of bored ex pros, contributing little more than inane ramblings like…He’ll be disappointed with that, after watching a replay of a striker putting one over the bar from two yards.

To be fair, Pien Meulensteen is a very good commentator, (despite where her dad used to work)

I assume you are talking about commentators as well? Tonight's are a prime example of how crap they are. Are they aware that there is a game going on? Talking about everything else but the game. Who has the ball? Anyone's guess.

My italian m8 once told me in his country the punditry is like commentary on chess. Analysing the actual game, much more insight and knowledge. And tbh I would like that.

I love football and know more than a lot of the guys who get to be pundits who just fell into the sport. Someone like Danny Murphy or Gary Neville just do not realise how lucky and football-stupid they are. Sorry, I shouldnt talk like that but makes me jealous.

Someday, somewhere, someone will do an article/video on the evolution of football commentary/punditry in the English game. I still maintain the snowball started with Jimmy Hill and his elevation on London Weekend Television in the late 60s as some sort of football guru/analyst and then ITV's World Cup Panel at Mexico 1970 (Malcolm Allison, Dougan, McNab and Paddy Crerand if memory serves). BBC poached Jimmy Hill back in the mid 70s (god knows why) and he was given the presenter's job on MOTD (basically less football action, more of him talking) and of course every WC/EC had it's panel of pundits on every channel from 1974 onwards.
Seem to remember co-commentary coming in regularly around 1978 with the inarticulate Bobby Charlton on the BBC and then into the 80s with Trevor Brooking and before long MOTD had it's own panel with Hansen/Lineker/Lawrenson alongside presenter Des Lynam.
I can't think of a single sport that has benefitted from co-commentary or from teams of pundits being paid shitloads to state the bleeding obvious.
