President Trump

Oh, I agree, but these “pockets” (as I described them, and your anecdote illustrates) haven’t reached a tipping point with the Americans that will stand up, protest, or show that it’s reached a critical mass.

I think the ploy is break it. Then, maybe fix up the little bits getting the most attention and noise for now, then make it so the rest is gone, unfunded, incredibly difficult to ever put back together again…both financially and logistically!

Et viola! American institutions, departments, and services wiped off the map…because you’re not going to find politicians with the will to take the tax increases needed to reopen & refund them.

From then on, the Shock & Awe will have been successful, because there is only so much time and attention (and money!) that can be used to address the alligators closest to the boat!!!

The wreck things and wreck things fast is how it looks to me too.
Then hurl wads of cash at unmonitored fixes which will let favoured people to make hay fraudulently.

I also note that your spellchecker is tough on French!

I think the plot is too break it to prevent free and fair elections forever, and instead have an dynastic oligarchy.

I have a feeling Trump has already decided to take Greenland, he’s had a word with Putin and basically Greenland will be Americas Ukraine. Putin will allow him to carry on as long he gets Ukraine, they have both decided to do what they want and not step on each others toes. What the rest of us do about it will be very interesting.

I’m not sure Trump thinks he’s going to be around that long, unless he thinks DJT Jr is heir to his throne…or Baron?!

The Christian Nationalists want us to go back to the Dark Ages, though!

Cancellation costs and the lack of a ready replacement on such long-tailed programs is often a big issue.

What should happen, though, is that Europe should turn its attention to every future purchase being from their own supply chain. That would affect American military manufacturing going forward, as they survived (much as Boring has done) on future orders.
That sounds great but the flaw is Europe, it does not speak as one voice.
Italy, France, Germany would all want to produce the jet that Europe buys, (jobs)
Meanwhile we have the best jet but we are not in Europe......
We call Trump but he recognises weakness and at the moment Europe is divided and therefore weak.

Each leader of each country has to win over voters so you don't give your rivals jobs.

I'm a little younger than you, but still had parents brought up during the war, and family members of the previous generation who were involved in various capacities. Growing up in the shadow of MAD and the cold war, as a child slowly becoming aware of the world I was afraid of nuclear war, as I grew older and understood the purpose of MAD, I became less fearful. When the wall came down I relaxed and thought I'd never see war in europe or the prospect of world war 3.

And here we are

I reluctantly liked this post.

Having grown up watching Raymond Briggs cartoon 'When the Wind Blows' it's a scary prospect to even contemplate MAD.

"United States of America will be putting what is known as a Secondary Tariff on the Country of Venezuela, for numerous reasons, including the fact that Venezuela has purposefully and deceitfully sent to the United States, undercover, tens of thousands of high level, and other, criminals, many of whom are murderers and people of a very violent nature. ...Therefore, any Country that purchases Oil and/or Gas from Venezuela will be forced to pay a Tariff of 25% to the United States on any Trade they do with our Country. "

I wonder how they'll be calculating this.

Hegseth's been on the gin again

fucks sake its like a cross between spitting image and the muppet show, just tell them to fuck off and we'll deal with the consequences, then fucking man up as a continent. So bored of this shitgibbon and his bezzies now

Suddenly reminded of Dax's post a few weeks back . . .

[Voting for Trump] wasn't a mistake. Even if it turned out he was off his rocker it still won't be a mistake. I voted for what he campaigned on and against what his opponent campaigned on and represented. So voting for Trump would never be a mistake. No matter how much some here dislike him.

This is literally an insane point of view. Right or wrong about Trump, it's insane. It's not even "based on what I knew then."

Why would you commit yourself to never, ever admit you made a mistake whomever you voted for -- or frankly in any decision you made? Why would you lock out any and all changes forever?

Well, he's stuck his feet in the cement, and it's dried very quickly.
