Tommy Tuchel's England squad | Nov '25 (p17)

Well, that didn’t take long did it.
I said throughout Southgate’s tenure that whoever comes in next will be hated, will face the same abuse, will get moaned at for squad selections, tactics and formations. Doesn’t matter what manager it is and what he does differently. We’re a nation of moaners that love to hate our own. It won’t change. Only respite a Manager may get is by lifting a trophy - even then, I’m doubtful.
You're happy then? What would it take for you just to be slightly disappointed?

Herr Tuchel has announced his latest squad from a City pop no Phil but Jonny Stones and Trafford

The Real Madrid fullback Arnold is excluded

One look at that England squad and my god we've fallen off a cliff! It's so weak across the back line, the midfield is pretty uninspiring and it doesn't seem particularly deep in attack. Granted Saka, Bellingham and Palmer are missing but it shows that the perception of having the "best squad ever" is a load of bollocks. Not a chance this squad is winning the World Cup with such a lack of depth.

It shows how far Phil has fallen in that his absence isn't even mentioned. He looked fit and sharp against Spurs, hopefully he can start this weekend and have a cracking season. Tuchel as a coach is good enough to recognise that a player of his ability needs to be the heartbeat of the team. It's whether Phil can do his bit now.
