City Announces Global Partnership with Viagogo

Brilliant post and I’m so sorry you went through that, mate.

The way the club treated you was unconscionable, and as you rightly say their disdain for the fans is now brazen.

Thank fuck they are just custodians. We were here before them and we’ll be here after them.

Thanks. Regarding the flooring there should have been a test on it before fans were allowed on it. It was the south stand lower and whoever signed that job off should have be fired. It was bloody slippery when dry, when wet is was absolutely lethal. It was frustrating trying to get somebody to listen and take my concerns seriously. As nobody did I had to watch other fans fall victim to it too. City just tried to pass the buck once I took legal advice, blaming the contractors, when ultimately the buck should have stopped with them.

Were the ESL supporter protests the catalyst that changed everything with the clubs attitude towards us? Up until then the relationship between club and traditional fanbase was good. There seemed to be a mutual appreciation which wasn’t just because they delivered success on the pitch. It’s remarkable how completely sour it has turned since then. It’s also no coincidence that the contempt they hold fans in is shared by the American owners of the cartel clubs. United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs and City have all made moves to increase their capacities which can be filled with non-traditional fans (tourists). There seems to be no widespread plans to increase season tickets and match day ticketing prices have increased everywhere. It looks like they’d rather have empty seats than offer reasonably priced match day tickets that can be bought be local fans. The ratio of new fans to traditional fans is increasing all the time. They don’t care if we are onside with their plans or not. Real fan satisfaction and engagement seemingly isn’t even a thing any more. They might tick the box with matchday surveys, but they don’t actually listen and act on our concerns (not sure what other industry would treat its customers in this way). We know the clubs work together on co-ordinated strategies so it doesn’t seem so far fetched that they decided to play the long game when they couldn’t form the breakaway ESL last time around - let the noise die down, work on changing the fan demographic and put their plans back on the table when there will be less resistance. We know they’re driven by money above everything else and a breakaway global league is the ultimate cash cow for them. If they need to completely change the fabric of the game by turning it into some NFL type farce then I don’t think they would think twice about doing so.

Good post. I find it quite ironic that they've come to this arrangement with Viagogo when games aren't selling out at current prices. The natural solution is to be more reasonable with ticket prices and reduce them. Instead they jump in bed with the most odious of ticket touting sites to maximise the price of people that are attending. Rather have 1 person paying 120 than 2 paying 40-50 and I think that says it all. The people making these decisions are a set of cunts.

Like every government we’ve had for generations, I can see the club playing fans off against each other, getting us squabbling and divided while they continue to do their shit that casts us further aside.

We have to stick together, I think this is only the very beginning of a long drawn out battle with the club.
100%.

I said the exact same elsewhere, It feels like the club is getting what it wants as in a divide between supporters and turning on each other.

We can't let that happen, We all have to be on the same page on this and stick together, As one we can be very powerful in our values and beliefs and put it to the club.

One thing we can't do is turn on one another which unfortunately seems to be happening. We all want the same thing here so let's stick together and get it sorted.

I don't know much about the Chinese community and we can't ask people at games where they are from but in another topic I recall someone found old census data for Manchester that showed that 43% of Manchester is non-white. After a decade of success, it's completely reasonable to expect to see local Mancs in our crowd when they can get access to tickets and ~43% will be non-white. And on a Cup day when they can attend, you get the influx of half and half scarfs and it's confusing.

Peoples comments on this topic confuse me because I am always wary of a race agenda, probably over-sensitive on occasion and I might see arguments that aren't there but we pose comments on the spur of the moment.
So true. The demographic of Manchester has changed and that is reflected in our support. The isssue of rip off ticketing and too many away tickets being creamed off to agencies is the key problem. Football tourism as such is a growth area and is happening worldwide. Bigger stadiums and fairer prices will help the situation. Match tickets should be subsidised as part of the broadcast contract and this should be pushed by any new regulator because the PL has been corrupted.

The entire Premier League are adopting high ticket prices. It is systematic and the result of capitalism of you want to be precise

Yep they’re an unscrupulous bunch of bastards these club executives. Football clubs are a huge part of the lives of so many people and it’s been this way for 150 years, yet they’d take it all away without a second thought. We all revel in what the Glazers have done at United as it means pain for their fans, which by nature we enjoy. If we’re completely honest and unbiased for a minute, what they have done to their club is immoral. Maybe we’re going to get a taste of that ourselves over the next 5-10 years - I suspect the fight is only just beginning.

We should confront any racism amongst City fans. I am uncomfortable with the actions of some City fans in raising the issue of tourists at games where it seems to me that a lot of local Asian supporters have been at the games. That even put me off 1894 for a while because their communication was very unclear on this. However, City fans have to take a stand on ticket prices. We are being priced out. You can't just ignore that. It's happening, and not just at City but at every club. We are one of the worst.

IMO City have not addressed the issue of season ticket prices because they are overwhelmed by the 115 case. But that does not help City fans, and they have allowed ticket prices to go up to astronomical levels for Premier League games so they cannot be defended. I don't think they understand that City's traditional fanbase cannot afford to watch individual games any more, or they are not bothered. But Manchester City needs to keep its traditional support.
All this is not as sinister as you’re imagining it might be.

I’m not saying that there are no racists in our support but there will be Mancunians of different races who agree with the messages of: ‘too many tourists in our ground’ ‘not enough locals and core supporters in our ground’ ‘too many non-City fans in our ground’ ‘too many fans of the opposition or opposition players in our ground’ ’decreasing numbers of Season Tickets and matchday tickets for proper fans because there are too many tickets going to anybody from around the world through official club partner ticket tout sites who have no City membership in our ground’ ‘local core supporters are not important enough to our boardroom’ ‘the Fan Experience Officer saying that 99% of our fans come from outside Manchester rubber stamps the feeling that the 1% are being treated like we are 1% important’ ‘the club are not engaging with core supporters and are systematically either pricing us out, banning us or squeezing us out through disillusionment’ ‘why are there rows of away tickets going to fans of other clubs from other countries when people with 15,000 to 23,000 Loyalty Points can’t get away tickets?’…

It’s not about race. Look at the lad who got a few slaps in SSL1 at the Liverpool game - he was white. The issue is the boardroom and non-City fans. The issue is the boardroom and a diminishing presence of locals (whatever their skin colour).

The divide between the club and fans cannot be this bad. It’s okay to ignore now, but it will cost the club massively if they continue on this path. I hope they realize this.

100% its not about race, but you’re not changing Marvin’s tune on that one.

It's certainly not okay to ignore now, Now is the time to act on this situation. The tickets, the atmosphere, the divide between fans is massive and if we don't act on it now it's only going to escalate and get a whole lot worse.

Will it cost the club massively if they continue on this path? Realistically "No".
If they club continue to be successful then they'll continue to attract fans from across the world so they'll continue to not give a fuck about regulars.

It's a complete mess.

I obviously enjoy Utd not being the force they once were and love the hilarity of them resorting to dusting off their Norwich shirts a few times a season.

At the same time there has to be a human element to it. Working class people losing their jobs when they've got people like that useless care bear looking **** Casemiro warming the bench on 350k a week.

That comment from Omar saying that football was easier during covid as there weren't fans there just illustrates how we're actually perceived at boardroom level. Keep increasing the prices until they've finally watered down the undesirables.

As you allude to; there may be something more sinister in their aggressive approach to this and going forward looking to revisit an ESL format when they believe the resistance level is at a more acceptable level for them.

I honestly think they don't give a fuck. We are a global brand now and they think like at the rags for years the stadium will be full irrespective of season ticket holders and local fans. Leicester at home should tell them we're far from that.

Think you’re overthinking it mate. Locals and tourists is just to show who we’re talking about. Nothing whatsoever to do with racism. Let’s not turn it into something’s it’s not. It’s purely about the club treating the fans like shit. So, knock it on the end please and get back to the facts. Cheers local or tourist.

One of the City Matters representatives, Mohammed Ullah, was abused at a recent game. "Why are you here?" he was asked. That's why I had a go at 1894 over the "tourists" shit. Mohammed is as Mancunian was they come yet because he's dark-skinned and often dresses traditionally, he got abused. You see people on here referring to Chinese tourists, when Manchester has one of the biggest Chinese communities in Europe.

Of course a lot of it is about race.

It’s such a big issue across English football that, not only do us Blues need to stick together, we need to get a mass voice as a nation.

Leeds fans saying their season ticket prices for next season have gone through the roof, United removing 65+ concessions (my Unc’s ST has just gone up £340 for next season there after 65 years of loyal support) and their Rangers debacle where there looked to be about 9k of them in there yet United have blamed a few hundred season ticket holders (just like Barcelona did when Frankfurt took over the Camp Nou)…

Together we are stronger. The key core message has to be held together with as little side issues and diminishing of the importance of it.

If they continue, the club will eat itself. It’s only going to be ‘sustainable’ for so long.

I gave up my season ticket years ago when I was unhappy with their price hikes and dicking about trying to move my seat.

There will always be racists in any support and there will be incidents that are about race; but the key core message is not about race.

I’ve enjoyed having some of the Korean and Chinese fans I’ve had sat next to me who are definitely there to support City (in a seat that’s always a foreign random attendee) than I have white Europeans and Americans who are questionably there to support City or obviously not there to support City.

Everyone has anecdotal evidence, but the key core message has to override that. It’s about the City boardroom and our core supporters.
