Question Time

Its not bias its trying in vain to get viewing figures up imho. Controversy sells more than boring politicians not answering questions or being honest week after week.
I think I read that audience figures have been falling way below their peak for sometime. I personally don't bother with it and looking at the posts on here not many others do. On a political forum that's quite telling.
I do try every now and then but it always fails to deliver and Bruce is awful.

By and large the art of proper political discussion is dying on its arse in favour of people point scoring and howling at each other. So even with a much better presenter it would struggle; but add in Bruce who is ill suited in multiple ways and it's pretty bad. Rather than sacking it off it needs a rethink and a reboot because the public being able to directly question it's politicians should be an important thing. The supposed 'think tankers' who are just lobbyists in disguise need sacking off in favour of some proper well selected experts, but do people want to listen to people who know what they're on about anymore when we can all hop onto YT and find a wingnnut whose views match our own?

I only watch it if an interesting non politician is on the panel to call out the politicians as there is no vested interest

while Reform do get a high rate of appearance, Tice being Tice last night probably didn't help himself much as he talked and talked to the point where Bruce mocked him and the audience almost cheered.

If you mean when she said "I might have to gag you" the audience (most of them) did cheer.

Disgraceful - tonights show features the odious Konstantin Kisin. He was the one arguing about what Englishness is with Fraser Nelson who tried to say Sunak would never be English because of the colour of his skin and his religion.

Now anyone who reads my posts knows my views on the Tories but Sunak is a son of Southampton - went to an English public school and was UK PM. He is as English as me a white fat ageing bloke and the BBC should not be entertaining anyone with views like Kisin - who is a Moscow born migrant to this country. They are GeeBeeBies v2.0

It’s interesting topic which I came across on social media a few weeks back. I think the lines are a bit more blurred than is suggested.

I have a mate from a Middle East country. Both parents born in that country along with his older brother. He was born in England and is a British passport holder. He considers himself a British citizen but not ethnically English.

More gaslighting and total misinformation from the Lib Dem lady last night. Where were the fact-checkers?

She wants to respond with strength and place tariffs on Tesla. Ie, She wants a green agenda where she places tariffs on electric cars and alongside that she wants to help the cost of living by making electric cars even more expensive.

She also forgets that Tesla’s in the UK are made and imported from China and Germany, NOT the US. Are we putting tariffs on cars made in China and Germany then?

This is the quality of this political class that we are bought into. One of messaging, lies, spite and hatred, and the one person they will put first is not you.

Hmmmm another way of saying yes... "our politicians ARE incompetent?

Not so certain we have bought into this political class..... I think the current buzz words or phrase is.... this is the political class we've had to "inherit"? As used by the Tories in 2010 and the Starmer mob in 2024?

I just find them nauseating. Pontificating about the right thing to do when the things they suggest are completely misinformed however are said to match a predetermined PR message.

Why do we put them onto a pedestal? Why is there always room for them to say whatever they want and get their message across but no room to challenge them?

His answers were pretty bad. Felt out of his depth.

Only watched the first half so far so not formed a full opinion. I think both Stevenson and the traditional media are sussing each other out at the moment. He's been fairly clear that he wants to promote a simple message discipline, like the Tories did to quite good effect, using "Tax wealth, not work" in an attempt to cut through. I suspect the thinking goes that until there is enough ground swell support for that message there's little point getting into the complexity of how you successfully achieve this. Lack of detail never stopped the Tories from effective messaging.

I read a paper, I think from the LSE, about the reasons wealth taxes fail in the face of the mobility of the rich, which suggested that various techniques are under exploited. The bottom line was that there are options but there's not been enough technical research and effort to get them to stick because ultimately the political will isn't there.

I suspect if the message is to stick there needs to be a better rebuff to the difficulties of wealth mobility than saying "China wouldn't let this happen". Be interesting to see if he persists with traditional media or them with him.

If, like scruffy Jim, you become a tax exile, the fucker's shouldn't be let back in. 2 weeks a year maybe - for emergencies - maximium. Fuck 'em - I'd shut the door on them forever. See how mobile they are then.
Scum!
(And rag scum, at that!)

I thought Stevenson was good on Q.T.
