Maybe it would have been if it wasn't for our absences. :)
In his pre match conference, Nick Cushing made the absolutely fair point that you were without your starting centre forward, your starting left winger and your leading centre back. Nick spoke the truth, and in doing so was perhaps building the messaging he wants club executives to hear and do something about. The thing is however that Chelsea were also without our starting centre forward, our starting left winger, and our leading centre back, for these games.
Granted, Girma has only played a few minutes for us but the player who would have started at CB instead of her is also out with an ACL injury. Worse, the two young CBs aiming to develop into WSL players also missed these fixtures through injury, one long term and one short, so we are currently down to just two fit CBs.
It isn't known if Hannah Hampton would have played these matches or not. She and 'Zee' Musovic were rotating in goal until Zee announced her pregnancy which ruled her out. The club brought in a senior keeper to replace Zee but that keeper promptly got injured too and is out of contention. This is why we needed to bring in Spurs' backup goalie as emergency cover. In midfield, Sophie Ingle would certainly have played a part in these four games if it wasn't for her knee injury.
I think City fans are fully entitled to bemoan their bad luck with injuries. City's manager is too but City's executives are not. Despite an almost equally tough injury list, Chelsea seem to have better cover for Sam Kerr, Guro Reiten, and Natalie Girma, than City do for their absent stars. There is no good reason for that.
