FA Cup Match of the Day - the Spurs comeback

Just stumbled across this cracking channel on YouTube that has loads of old City highlights (from the 80s through to the 2000s).

Found the full 20-minute BBC highlights of Spurs 3-4 City. Motty on commentary.

quality.

City weren't even that bad in the 1st half that day, going in 3 down and then learning Barton had been sent off was very deflating. Good old Spurs.

As much as Motson was a legend as a commentator, I was never convinced that his commentary on that game was done live. It sounded to me like some of his comments at least were added later on when he already knew the outcome. I could be wrong and it's ages since I've last seen it but it was almost like he was pre-empting the comeback at times. Plus he doesn't sound as shocked as he ought to have been if he was commentating as the game was unfolding.

That was always typical of MOTD coverage across the board. Can't vouch for current day as I couldn't tell you the last time I watched MOTD, but for many games the commentary used to be done after the event.

Remember watching this in a TV tent in Basrah. 1 o'clock in the morning jumping up and down like a mad man. My spurs fan mate come running in, I threw him to the floor shouting "get in there you cockney ****"

It was live on TV, don't know whether BBC or ITV had it though.

Listened to it on GMR with my Dad. Turned to him at half time and said: “We need a new manager.”

Full time I was singing Keegan’s praises like a typical fickle fan.

In reality the comeback probably had precious little to do with Keegan. It was just blood, guts and eyeballs or whatever the phrase is.
