President Trump

Is it a figment of my imagination that Trump literally tried to subvert the 2020 election? The only thing that prevented him succeeding was that he had not managed to infiltrate all levels of government and the judiciary with his minions yet and his VP at the time found the balls to do the right thing and ratify the electoral college vote.

The plans were in place to steal the 2024 election but were not needed because Social Media was effective in manipulating enough people to vote him.

In 2028, the plans for subverting the election will be much more comprehensive and by then the popular vote will be irrelevant.

Call it hysteria if you want but the story of the last 10 years since Trump appeared on the political scene suggests that it’s very unlikely there can ever be a fair presidential election again whilst Trump is still around and the MAGA apparatus is in place.
I would say all you’ve posted there, is more than enough to get hysterical about.

The other thing to consider us it doesn't have to be Trump.
Yes he will remain in power whilst breathing but Vance or another power mad arsehole will step in when Trump snuffs it.
This isn't really about Trump, despite the thread title, (but I can't be arsed going into the American politics thread,) this is about Putin style dictator shit.
Putin wants the USSR back.
Trump/Vance/Musk want the power afforded to them by owning Greenland, Panama and yes Canada.
Then looking down on Europe, us and the rest
Disagree with you there. It’s a cult of personality. Without Trump they’ll descend into disparate factions fighting over the scraps of MAGA. Like rats in a sack.

It will take years to get back to normal if it ever does.

There would be a huge power vacuum if Trump died. He might be a useful idiot but the fact he doesn't care about so many issues is what makes him a candidate the right wing nuts can compromise on. The Christian right get to do their weird white Supremacy / misogyny stuff, the anti vaxs conspiracy loonies get the cdc and the corrupt industrialists can do there thing and they just nod at each other when they pass in the corridor.

Fox news cheers them all on.

That coalition could fall apart quickly.

It may also be the case that those Republicans that hate Trump but keep quiet through fear of reprisal come out of the woodwork and try to re-establish true conservatism.

Best way to build a group are the opponents, the "others":

libs, radical lefts, free-loading Europeans, woke, divers, politicians etc.

And the strongest argument above all always and everywhere is the concept of the nation itself: MAGA. Opponents are traitors.

You really don't have to be constructive. Nazis came to power by what they've hated, not what they loved.

Reporters should ask him - "if America was so great, why are you changing EVERYTHING it stands for?"

And whatever you do, please don't call him 'sir' - makes my blood crawl when he says 'they ask me 'Sir, why don't you...' ' sometimes even when he's talking about world leaders.

OK then. Craft the message that would work in your view, for the left to show strength that would suddenly shift the balance of power to their side.

The people who have gone MAGA cult will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever vote for a Democrat. Ever. No matter the person. No matter the message. They are done forever.
I think you're right - it needs some schism among Republicans to cause a third serious party to form

I've seen a stat today showing 0.4 Americans are in extreme financial difficulties. The long term average is 0.1 its as high now as the beginning of the financial crisis in 2008.

Back then the problems in the financial system were that these problems were hidden in the system. The reforms since means Banks are now better placed to absorb the problem. But that just means people and small business will have to take the losses instead of the banks.

Could get very messy in the US if this issue doesn't correct itself.

He’s also saying America isn’t great. When did it become shite?

-- new poll from the Associated Press and NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.

The survey finds a majority of people asked were unhappy with Trump's handling of every major issue covered.

The poll indicated he remained strongest among voters on immigration, amid his adminstration's efforts to ramp up deportations - although more people (50%) disapproved than approved.

The approve to disapprove ratio on his performance as president overall was 42% to 56%.

And the Republican president's threats to impose tariffs - which have been accompanied by tumbling consumer confidence and wild stock market swings - might be erasing his advantage on the economy, an issue he made central to his winning 2024 campaign.

Around just four in 10 Americans said they were satisfied with both the economy generally and his trade negotiations with other countries.

Denmark issues a strong warning to Trump “the Artic should be a low tension area and it is part of NATO” if “America wishes to increase it’s troops in Greenland then we will discuss it” there used to be thousands of troops and bases in Greenland now America only has 200 troops and one base.

Donald Trump has long asserted the US will take control of Greenland and, on Saturday, insisted the move would help boost international security - but the island territory is furious. But Greenland, a huge, resource-rich island in the Atlantic, is a self-governing territory of Denmark, a NATO ally of the United States.

Mr Trump wants to annex the territory, claiming on Saturday it is needed for national security purposes. The US President had said: "We’re not talking about peace for the United States. We’re talking about world peace. We’re talking about international security

Why isn't anyone from the UK calling Trump out on this (same with all the nonsense about Annexing Canada). Are so frightened of upsetting the orange ****?
Probably. As a standalone individual he's fuck-all but as leader of the world's most powerful nation we need to tread carefully whether we like it or not

Both he and Starmer have a long 4 years together so at the moment its a matter of feeling their way along - the Tories are all over the place with Bedenoch I think backing Trump one day then hedging her bets the next - Farage and Reform are 4 square behind him and Ed Davey is riding a hobby horse around a make believe events course so for various reasons he has a free pass for now. Any move on Canada will implicate the Commonwealth and the King's involvement which will make it very interesting.

What we are seeing with this - and the tariff's and the internal squabbles is classic Bannon - just flood the zone and plough on with your own plan leaving rivals floundering trying to understand whats just happened in the zone - Johnson did the same - you start the day with opponents needing a strategy which by the end of the day not only have they been unable to formulate one they now have several others to formulate too.

As fellow members of NATO, the UK should be condemning him for this, not cowering in the corner frightened to speak. As for Canada, they are one of our closest Commonwealth member, yet not one of our major politicians (unless I've missed it) has come out and told him to do one!
