We can probably keep one as an occasional back-up but we need to fundamentally move on.
I'd be all for a full rebuild.

3 midfielders out, and 3 in or whatever.

From Pep's comments though, I'm guessing at best one of those 4 are moved on. Maybe 2 max.

Think it’s more that Gonzalez takes some of the defensive load off him in a way Kovacic doesn’t.
Gonzalez is also much easier to trust with the ball at his feet so Gundo doesn't have to babysit him the way he has to for Kovacic.

Gundogan left for Barcelona 2 years ago because he didn't get a 2 year extension. I don't know if you guys watch foreign football a lot but the problem last year at Barcelona was that the midfield was overrun in way to many games.Sounds familiar. He comes back on a salary of nearly 300.000$ a week and pep said outside of Kevin no one is out of contract at the end of this season. So he has another year extension. Kev only wanted a one year extension with reduced salary and the club didn't even make a proposal for Kev.

Well done by Pep. Not giving Kev an extension but Gundogan by forced game time. Delayed a faster switch again. Need a new midfield and now there‘s still Bernardo, Gundogan and Kovacic who MIGHT all stay since they have another year.

im not as positive as others. anyone would have looked good against lester.

in my eyes its criminal that he has another year left on his contract on 300k a week.

way too slow just like the others around him in midfield.

I will be severely disappointed if he signs that contract extension and thinks he can offer something next season.

Should have just gone and remained gone as a legend after the treble.
Never mind sign it, Pep is doing his fucking best to trigger the extension if it hasn't already.

I hope Viana whilst watching today realises he might have to set aside a few quid to cancel that one.

I will defend him. Our best games have had Gundo playing without Bernardo and KDB,and he has been by far the best out of the three (not that much to brag about). With Rodri, Nico, Grealish, a better Foden, I think Gundo is still a good player. As long as Bernardo and KDB are not here anymore, I would keep him.

I defend him because I see far lesss criticism for the other two, which I feel is really unfair.

It's pretty clear he can't play with the other old heads. The bar is low, but he's the best of the 30 plus brigade and has looked good in the middle playing with Gonzalez and Grealish.

Gundo wasn't the problem today by a long shot. He did his role adequately.

All control of the game was lost when he was subbed off, and his replacement in grealish is somebody who is supposedly brilliant at controlling games which should indicate to those that couldn't see what he was offering that he was infact doing his role.

Thought that was a poor game from him.

But also, its not like Jack did any better.

Kev was the worst of our midfield as well.
