Hearing the whole city is currently a serious sanitation health hazard in regards no collection of garbage n trash piling up etc all over n reports of vermin the size of politicians!

How bad really is it?

Any Brum resident mooners care to give an update?

People pissin' on the stairs, you know they just don't care
I can't take the smell, can't take the noise
Got no money to move out, I guess I got no choice
Rats in the front room, roaches in the back
Junkies in the alley with a baseball bat
I tried to get away but I couldn't get far
Cause a man with a tow truck repossessed my car

The inner cities are appalling to be honest. We're in a mess of a situation because the council clearly do not have a pot to piss in, yet you can't really expect bin men to be happy with with losing 6-8k per year.

It's a genuine health risk in certain areas now, the stench is unbelievably bad and the piles of rubbish are literally everywhere.

All that being said, even without bin strikes, large areas of the city have rubbish piled high on a daily basis. We can all cry poverty but we have a serious fly tipping issue in this city, I know it exists everywhere to an extent but it's been getting worse and worse here for a while. People with absolutely no pride in their local areas.

I worked there 35 years ago and it was horrendous.
Nothing has gotten better it seems.

City centre is fine, haven’t ventured outside for a bit but I’m in Harborne tomorrow. If it’s bad there, it will be bad everywhere else (apart from the city centre, obviously).

Would hate to think of the negative impact its having on the children n elderly where you are mate.

The city council isn’t well run but they’ve been royally fucked up the arse by the Supreme Court’s public sector equality ruling.

Agree about the fly tipping culture in the city which is endemic. Not helped by a lack of enforcement by BCC.

Absolutely this . Can’t blame people who are in the main low paid for signing up to to the claim as it is free money for them, however the Human rights lawyers and the Unions who partnered them on the equal pay claim have a lot to answer for .

Agree with what @gordondaviesmoustache said. I was down there Thursday and Friday last week and the centre look perfectly clean. All from New Street up to City Gardens and down on to Broad Street and along the Canal.

Don’t know what the residential areas are like though.

As do the Supreme Court tbf. The consequences have been presumably unforeseen but nonetheless appalling.

Yeah not great mate! Certain areas are ok but others are a complete mess. As said city centre seems fine but it's more highly density populated residential areas which are bad (as you'd expect). Also bit of a wounder watching council tax jump 7.5% to have to spend any spare time you can queuing to get into the tip!

Issue is, I don't see any sign of it ending any time soon. Outer suburbs aren't too bad. Inner cities are a genuine health risk to those living there, but then again, a lot that do unfortunately contribute to this mess.

We were in the city centre a couple of weekends ago. As GDM I think suggested, the actual rubbish situation isn’t too bad, or certainly doesn’t seem too bad. That said peer down the odd side alley and you do notice more than usual.

I feel sorry for those living in the inner city areas where it does seem pretty bad for many. The health risks and smell as the weather warms will be ramping up.

Overall I’d say Brum centre is now a pretty depressing place. Colmore Row to the new development to the library is pretty decent. Mailbox and Selfridges end of the Bullring are okay. The rest is pretty depressing. It will be interesting to see any spin off benefits off the development around Carson Street as the white elephant rail project is completed.

Why are people just dumping rubbish outside their house rather than just running it to the tip? Are they closed as part of the strikes too?
