Reported attendances are based on tickets distributed, not actual bums on seats. If no season ticket holders turned up, they'd still report all 36k. If they send 1,000 free tickets to schools, colleges and universities, and 5 people turn up, they'll still count it as 1,000 attendees.I'm not sure where that 98.2% statistic comes from, but I find it difficult to believe. Let's face it, when the extension is open, we'll struggle to get past 90% the way we are going. Then, in years to come, when we've lost an entire generation of potential matchgoers and the coveted tourists have moved on to the next fashionable thing, we'll be in a right mess.
There is no justification for the current short-sighted ticketing strategy. None. Not from a commercial or moral viewpoint.
