We bought Echeverri in. He may develop but we will probably have to bring someone else in because we probably won't know about Echeverri until next season.

I think he is a long way from filling Kevs shoes and if we do see him he will be part of a front three initially not as part of the midfield. One thing history tells us is it takes a lot of trust before you get to fill a midfield role.

I'd Kev wasn't fit, and wasn't playing well, Pep wouldn't play him in the CL run-in. He's clearly fit, dictating games, putting in performances, and being chosen to play by Pep. Is he any worse than any of our other current midfield players? Many who will be playing next season for City.

To me it's all about getting Kev's a wages off the books, which will contribute to, and pay for his replacement next season, whoever that is?
He’s clearly finished mate. City have always got the calls right when it comes to letting people go. Yaya was possibly the exception: he got one year too many. But Kev’s best is behind him and we need to replace him.

This whole thing makes me feel sick to the pit of my stomach. If he goes to another Prem club, my hunch is that it will be Liverpool - he has an affinity with them. Seeing Kev play against us for anyone, let alone Liverpool, isn't something I ever thought I'd see. Just doesn't feel right.
His comment saying he’s open to anything does worry me a little bit

Absolutely this and it clears the deck for the replacement both wages and the fact that players may well think, due to Kev’s reputation, they could play second fiddle.

KDB did not get an offer for a reason, he's finished.

He's had 9 years on elite wages and the last five on 350k plus bonuses, FFS he has not played for us for nothing.

His statement yesterday was crass and unnecessary, how the hell can you be bitter with what him and the club have achieved together.

Go out with grace and style, just like Spanish Dave and the Captain.

How was his statement crass?

He wants to play at the top level and wants to make it clear that he disagrees with City's view that he can't hack it any more.

You might agree with City, but KDB said nothing disrespectful at all.

As fans, we have mostly felt that City/Pep have allowed the team to age one season too far especially the midfield, yet after KDBs best performance this season (against Palace) some fans want the club to do a u turn and sign him up again.

Kev will always produce moments of brilliance wherever he goes, but in a league where the norm over the last few years is that to win the league you are going to have to accumulate over 90 points, we simply cannot afford to keep him as a regular starter, especially if it means we can use his wages to sign a top class replacement.

KDB, when not quite at it, can be a liability, especially in the ageing team we have had this season when he sometimes struggles to complete a simple 5 yard pass and is very careless with the ball and leaves us vulnerable to the counter attack.

He obviously missed a great deal of last season due to injury however going back to the treble season the evidence was there that the injuries had taken their toll and there was a decline in his performances..in fact we looked a better team in the final against Inter after Foden had replaced him.

I think the reason he has played more games this season in is due to the poor form of Foden.

He has given us some fabulous performances and service over the last 9 years …. the title clincher v Villa being one of the best, but if we want to be competing for titles again, the 33 year old KDB is unfortunately now not that man.

Kev, is still good enough to grace our squad. Maybe not anticipating him able to play every game for 90 mins, but definitely 50/60% of games, playing 60-90 mins. With his quality that matters.
If the club have plans to bring in a top signing, I can see their point of view, but that still wouldn't allow for the transition and adaptation. Kev's leadership and quality would justify a rolling contract, no problem from me.

personally think it is a bit sad that after Pep saying on many occasions that KDB had earned the right to make his own decision on his future that it is clear that the club did not give him that curtesy.

I am so torn on this overall as KDB is probably the greatest player we have ever had and it appears to be ending on a slightly sour note between the two parties. but I think one of the reasons for our recent downturn is due to the club not being cutthroat enough with decisions and generally erring on the side of sentiment with players and you certainly can’t say they have done that this time despite how much I we love KDB.

No player, however loved, is bigger than the club

It's all very well saying that a player has a right to choose his time to leave, having been a legend for the club.
But, it's a result based business.
I will always revere what KDB has done for us, but we've seen this season that sentimentality will get us only so far.
If we'd had Rodri this season, then Gundo would have played less, and we'd be better for it.
Tintin is up there with the best.
Now we have to rebuild, and the money saved may allow us to buy the next game-changing player.

Stay quite, if he upset at leaving leave that until later when the dust has settled.

He has been magnificent, probably the best player in our shirt ever, leave with your head held high, don't sour anything.

From what I have seen he is broken physically, he simply can't perform at the highest level and I am sure if he is utterly honest he knows that very well.

Be interesting to see if we have one lined up. We have thought this before when players have left only to go into the next season a bit light.
We will have several candidates lined up, CL qualification will be a major part of whp does come.

Hart, Zabba, Vinny, Yaya, Merlin, Fernandinho, Aguero all legends in my eyes and all left at the correct time. There is literally no difference with KDB. He is another legend, one of the best ever but his injuries post Champions League have really slowed him down.
I'm not sad or angry he is leaving. I am just glad I was alive with my kids to witness most of his games in person for the past 10 years.
Merlin was number 1 for me, then Kev.

So we agree, nothing crass.

KDB in a very different situation to Silva and Kompany. Silva wanted to go home and Kompany knew his body was done and wanted to move into mamanagent.

KDB clearly doesn't feel like that, no matter how/what you think he thinks deep down.

Sunny semi-retirement might appeal to some (and he still end up in US due to lack of other offers on decent at top European/PL clubs), but KDB is the ultimate competitor and is clearly reluctant to leave the biggest stages when he feels he can still make a difference. Also, by all accounts he and his family are happy in Cheshire.

Funny that, having spent the last 3 or 4 transfer windows publicly inviting offers from Saudi and saying it would tempt him.
