Snooker World Championship 2025

O'Sullivan's record vs Carter is outstanding. He just had to turn up to win that match. 20 wins in 21 meetings in tournament play after today's result.

Trump in fine form tonight. Getting close to his £100,000 bonus now. Some match for his 2nd round though as Murphy also looked good in his opener.

That Wollaston clearance was so good I had to watch it twice. About 6 incredible shots in a row!

Edit - As if by magic...

Selby will probably get through but hope he gets beat tbh. His modus operandi these days is just to bore his opponents off the table. The fact that he's a really good player (you don't become multiple times world champion without being) just makes it worse. If I'd paid to watch a session and it turned out to be him then I wouldn't go.

Yes, I am. Seriously. O'Sullivan is undoubtedly one of the most talented players to pick up a snooker cue, alongside Higgins (A) and White. That's not even up for debate. They were/are entertainers. But not the greatest. Not for me, anyway. It's a toss up between Davies and Hendry, in my opinion.*

Ronnie beat Hendry in a final largely playing left handed. Ignoring the accolades, in pure outright ability, O’Sullivan is the greatest to play the game and he can do it with both hands.

I remember he played part of a match left-handed and still beat his opponent. Said he'd been playing awful right-handed so thought he'd switch. Alain Robidoux wasn't too happy about being on the end of it if I remember rightly.

Not sure how you can put Davis above Ronnie. Hendry was clearly and upgrade on Davis and nearly every single pro says Ronnie is the best ever.

I was/am using world titles as a yardstick. And, having just checked, I'm happy to retract the claim about Steve Davies being better than O'Sullivan as, having just checked, Ronnie actually has one more world title than Steve. Which, I have to admit, surprised me. I thought Davies had a few more than the six he actually has. And Hendry is equal with Ronnie. It's just an impression I got that Hendry was mentally tougher than Ronnie. You obviously don't agree. Fair enough. We'll agree to differ.

As I said in my original post, it was my opinion, not a statement of fact.

Bracelet playing like he’s had 5 pints on a Friday night in Riley’s.

Potting everything he can as hard as he can.

Thing is, his natural ability is insanely good.

Davis dominated when there were no real other contenders to his perch of world #1. Then Hendry came along when standards across the board were getting better and he dominated when there were actually a few other players that weren't too far off his level. Then O'Sullivan appeared and took the sport on even further. The year Ronnie turned professional also saw John Higgins and Mark Williams arrive on the scene to great acclaim. The Rocket has outshone them all. He's not played a tournament for 3 months yet still puts in a performance like he did and is still regarded as a contender to win another world title. Yes, his long game showed some rust spots but when amongst the balls he didn't miss. An absolute phenomenal player that has 200 more century breaks than his nearest rival.

I used to play Alex Higgins in practice quite a few times years back when he had had way more than the equivalent of 5 pints. And he still almost always won!
He was quite the fish when it came to drinking.

There is that sweet spot when playing pool where you’ve had enough booze to relax your arm and you seem to pot everything.

Then, half another pint later and your aims goes!

Yeah, can see why somebody would favour Hendry, just not Davis. You’d be on a safer bet with a prime Hendry over Ronnie due to his better mental strength.

Ronnie is undoubtedly the most talented ever though and now has pretty much every record to back it up. Apart from being level on world titles with Hendry.

I’ve backed Murphy at good odds. If he can produce his Masters form he’ll be there abouts. He’s an articulate speaker but I wish he’d leave the punditry though until he’s out or won it.

Murphy is a very good player but, for reasons I cannot explain, he does my head in. I find him very annoying. He exudes bad vibes in my direction.
