Perhaps. Rodri, cost €70m in 2019. I'd guess the price would be considerably higher in 2025 money. When we purchased him, he wasn't worth €70m by any stretch. There will be a lot of faulty memories here but many on this forum repeatedly called him a shit player.

Could Pep have made Rice even better? Probably. You don't know that Rice isn't capable. Perhaps he's doing what is asked and expected of him?

Kovacic and Phillips the combined total price was about £80m. For another £20m, in my opinion, Rice would have been with it.
 
I never rated or wanted Phillips (his partner for England) and never thought Rodri was a bad buy. Rice seems a lovely man when interviewed but, unfortunately, isn't a £110m player and never will be as long as he has got a hole in his arse. Rice is 26 years old. When will he become even a mere shadow of Rodri.?
Also, why the love in with the media with Arteta? Appointed on 20th December 2019. Spent close on 1b pounds. One FA Cup, two Community Shields (one of them when they were allowed in because we couldn't play ourselves). Five years and four months. He's a loser but won't be called out.

I never meant to imply you thought Rodri was a poor player or bad guy. And I want to you to know, I'm not having a go at you. Just a discussion about differing opinion. I'm not saying I am the one who's correct. It's just my opinion and worth 2p.
 
Yes, mine is just an opinion too. We spend £100m on Plodder and prevents us buying other players. Everyone knows that Phillips was a waste of money, Nunes probably over priced also. We buy Plodder and most likely cannot afford Gvardiol. We can only spend so much, Plodder would have been a waste of money in our team. Nowhere near the skillset. He's a workhorse aka a plodder.
My opinion and I'm sticking to it.

I would assume that any links we have with him are those from an agent or club trying to push his price up.

Sadly agree, although Gvardiol’s looked great at CB and Khusanov, Reis and Bah are all promising. Just think he’s an absolute gem and a tailor-made Pep defender. Reminds me a lot of Laporte with that Hollywood pass from deep, plus he’s incredibly composed for a 19 year old defender.

When he moves, just hope it’s abroad.

Madrid should be all over him. He looks a real talent and £50m could be a steal.

Different opinion but I think Rice is easily worth 110 mil. He might get shout for Ballon D Or or may be win it if arsenal reach the champions league final.
 
Rice is great in the position he's in, but if he was here we still would be looking in the market for a back up for Rodri.

In all seriousness Rice is a great player and I think would have complimented Rodri well.

They both can move the ball forward and attack. It would have also been a great base to have someone like Phil in front of as our 10.
