Goalkeeper situation summer 25

Ederson going to PSG would complete them I reckon. Id actually just rather he stayed and we didnt sign Costa. Ederson is only young for a keeper.

I can't imagine he wants to leave us for anything other than a huge Saudi payrise. If he was happy in Europe and on European wages, he'd stay here I'd assume.

Donnarumma was an old PSG signing though. He’s a great shot stopper but well below the best with his feet, and that’s the kind of team and manager they have now, and they’re so obviously better that the manager might have the authority to get rid of him for a keeper that “fits” better.

Biggest obstacle would be who is going to buy donnarumma on his current salary of €12m AFTER tax? That’s a goalkeeper on the equivalent of £400k+ and while PSG got him for free he’s unlikely to be flogged off cheap.

We haven’t had a goalkeeper improve or even stay at their top level since Mancisidor became the GK coach and I doubt that will change.

Ederson arrived at City 90% of the way to being the best goalkeeper in the world and with the potential to be one of the best ever. His shot stopping needed some work but he had great reflexes and he was bad at 1v1s because he overcommits - but 10 years on he’s never improved the things he’s bad at in order to kick on, if anything they’ve got worse, exactly what happened to Hart when he came under Mancisidor. Ortega has gone backwards rapidly too.

Maybe Hart just got too big headed, maybe Ederson is too Brazilian and cares more about enjoying life than being the best (perfectly valid life choice IMO), maybe Bravos confidence was broken permanently (although like hart & Steffen it came back away from city), maybe steffen was never good enough (although he’s playing really well again now) maybe Ortega was always going to regress when he went from starter to backup. Starting to get too long a list to be coincidental in my eyes though.

Sorry to be a Debbie downer, negative Nancy etc but our issue at GK is not the players IMO.

This is a great point. I've never realised it before but there's certainly a trend.

Donnarumma doesn't fit the play out from the back types that Enrique is looking for a goalkeeper.

But they also don't want Ederson. If rumors are anything to go by, they are targeting Chevalier from Lille.
 
No matter who we get they’ll not be in Ederson’s league for ability with a football at their feet. There may never be a better keeper in the next generation than him in that respect, he’s unreal.

They may be able to save more shots though

Do you think we’ll get much of a few for Eddy?

We don't have a goalkeeper issue,as the trophy cabinet will testify, only issue is probably both our keeps have decided it's time for them to leave.
