It’s Quiet 20 - What is the Wirtz that could happen?

Dont think it will be painful or prolonged.Might take a year or two to peak, but we'll be a very good team next season
It’s likely to be painful in the sense of breaking up a group of players that have been together for a number of years, which might be done either ruthlessly this summer or prolonged over two summers.
The rebuild itself is not going to be easy, as it will depend on assimilating a number of new players, many of whom might be significantly younger, reinvigorating a number of existing players, and striking upon a system that can get the best out of their collective talents. Guardiola is also going to have to work with a slightly larger squad of younger players, something he’s not had to do recently, and find a way of keeping more of them in form.
I’m looking forward to it but appreciate the challenge. I’ve said elsewhere that it might be 27-28 before we’re genuinely contending on both domestic and European fronts.

Fair enough, I don’t find it that painful when most of our players leave. Very thankfull but not really painful. KDB makes me a little sad though.
For me actually I’ll be saddest about Stones, he could have been one of the greatest players and injuries will have him leaving never really fulfilling his potential.

I'm very much in this boat too, made my peace with the business of players moving on, so tend not to get overly emotional.

Agree about Stones too, I believe a career without injuries sees him talked about above any other CB to have played the game in the country, possibly Europe. I think he's that good (or certainly could have been).

I've long ceased having emotional feelings for any individual players since I understand that it's a mercenary industry and that they'd all move on if things went awry. That said, when a group of players have been together so long and achieved so much, it will be painful for them when the music suddenly stops.

It depends on the trajectory of some of the existing squad. Defensively, if rested and able to stay fit due to rotation we have so many good options. Rodri's return will see a significant improvement as well. If Foden can return to the levels from last year and we see further improvement from Savinho, Doku, Marmoush then we aren't going to be a million miles away.

We had a horrific November and December but our last 17 games have seen us win 10, draw 4 and lose 3. We don't need to improve much to be back challenging for the title.

I actually think many of this season's problems, in terms of injuries and drop in form, could have been foreseen last year. There's almost an inevitability about such matters when players play too much football. Similarly, the amount of football that has fallen on certain shoulders this season is almost inevitably going to have an impact on them next season. We should be particularly wary about how much more we ask of Gvardiol, Haaland, and Bernardo this summer. I agree that we need much more improvement and consistency out of what remains a relatively young attack. Foden, Savinho, Doku, Bobb, McAtee, even Haaland, have an abundance of talent, but they all need to improve their overall game. That is partly on them but partly on the coaching staff.

Our form has improved of late, true, but then we haven't had European distractions since February 19th. I think we're still just a little bit off the top two domestically (Liverpool/Arsenal) and maybe a bit more to Paris/Barcelona/Real Madrid, especially if meeting them later in the season. That's why I can see us challenging domestically next season but maybe having another couple of European heartbreaks before 27-28.

If he is a target would make sense with us having Viana here. This is what he does if you go by reports. I said a couple months back expect to be linked with players we have no idea about. He’s also a massive fan of the championship and Sara was at Norwich

The name of Gabriel Sara, formerly of Sao Paulo, is on the table for City. Initial contacts have been made with his representatives. The mid-year transfer window is set to be lively for the kid from Cotia who is currently at Galatasaray

Juventus are now willing to sanction an exit for Cambiaso for a reported sum in the region of €40-45 million should Manchester City rekindle their interest in the Italian, whom they tried to sign in January but failed to complete a deal, as relayed by Get Football News Italy.

Gets lower every report with Juve on the brink of no CL

Eze wants to leave in the Summer apparently. Wonder if we’ll make our long-standing interest concrete. Same with Wharton.

I don’t think either have a release clause, though, like Olise did and their value to Palace is huge. Never mind their ability and potential.

Funny when the media report a player Liverpool are interested in buying the fee quoted is way lower than the reality!

It's the Wharton link saying Liverpool looking at him as an option for 50m not a chance in hell Palace would sell for that
