I couldn't give a flying fuck but then my entire support isn't based around being petrified of having some people take the piss out of me.

I’m not comparing the status of the two games, more considering the differing reaction of our fan base, and what it represents. For all its difficulties, Wembley by any measure is cheaper, easier and less time consuming than Istanbul. If we take similar followings to both, that suggests that people were more prepared to go the extra mile for Istanbul, which to my mind equates to a level of apathy now towards the FA Cup. An apathy, per my original point, that was not present in 2011.

Have a look at some of our home attendances for that FA Cup run in 2010-2011 and try and tell me that apathy didn’t exist back then.

The fact is that apathy has always existed amongst not just City fans but every other fanbase too. It’s why we got 43,000 for the Manchester derby in 1989, but only 26,000 against Luton a week later. Similarly, across town just 6 months earlier United got 55,000 against Forest for a QF FA Cup match but only 36,000 for a league game against Luton the following Saturday.

First cup tie we sold out for at the Etihad was the league cup semi final against utd in 2012. FA cup QF against West Ham there were only 39k there and 6k were West Ham. So many examples to go at.

It's not neccessarily apathy. Some people just can't afford to attend every game even if they wanted to and therefore have to choose which games they go to and which games they don't?
 
Anyone successfully been able to view Wembley seat from the link sent with the ticketing criteria ?
I must be doing something wrong (Foc)

The upcoming final against Palace will be the 31st time we’ve played at Wembley since 2011 against United. If you include charity shields.

Hundred percent this. I think Sunderland have a predominantly working class fan base and only had 15k in a 48k stadium for an FA Cup game earlier in the season against Stoke. Their average attendance this season is more around the 40k mark. A significant drop off of 25k for an FA Cup game and this is off the back of Coventry getting to the semis last season and being robbed of a place in the final. I'm still not convinced that winner in ET was offside against the rags and the powers that be just wanted another Manchester derby final.

It isn't about novelty

it is about expense, a shit transport infrastructure and time.

not everybody can stay over, not everybody drives, not everybody can afford stupid prices for trains, not everybody is comfortable on long journeys (thinking coach travel here)

I know peopel who cannot sit for long periods due to health reasons and the only option is the train but they are priced out, I myself don't have a driving liscence and if we hadn't arrange a weekend trip wouldn't be paying £114 for a train, spending £100 on a gaff for 2 nights and having none of the stress of rushing back to euston I am willing to do, but not evryone can book the friday off or the sunday for that matter.

I won't miss a cup final, but I won't call out others who do.

Have a look over the last 40 years, we have never had a fan base that were anything but apathetic to cup ties, a core say 27000 will attend all but after that its anyones guess how many will.

It's not about that though is it?

It's about the club growing and developing into the world leading club we (well I do) want it to be.

You seem to be very locally focused tbh. Myself, I'm a bigger thinker for the club.

But then you are local and I'm not so perhaps this is what sets our perception.
