Morgan Gibbs-White

Ok so on that basis, can you talk us through why we are potentially signing Gibbs-White, in the same way you've talked us through the other signings we've made?
I don't know if we are potentially signing him, but from the little I have seen him play he has nearly always stood out. He has high levels of energy and determination. He is good on the ball with a good range of passing. He shoots with good accuracy. He has strong G/A stats for his club. He plays nearly 90 every game and is rarely injured.

Which two seasons was Grealish supposedly good in?

Let’s stop rewriting history here—he never had “two good seasons.” At best, he had a decent three-month spell during the treble-winning year. Some might argue it was six months, but I’m sticking to three. Even during that period, he wasn’t world-class—just solid within a highly functioning system.

Let’s be clear: Grealish is a poor signing. No amount of goalpost-shifting, revisionism, or emotional justification will change that. You can huff and puff all you like—he remains a poor signing.

For the transfer fee paid and the massive salary he’s on, his overall contribution has been minimal, and his influence on matches is virtually non-existent. He doesn’t decide games, doesn’t create fear, and doesn’t elevate the team’s attacking edge and this is someone who's supposedly an attacker!

In fact, we’d have been better off signing a 34-year-old Lionel Messi on a free transfer and handing him £40M a season—at least Messi still offers world-class output and game-winning impact, even in the twilight of his career.

It’s not personal—it’s just the harsh truth: Grealish, for City, has been an underwhelming and overpriced luxury

Your name is Dialog?
You're incredibly perceptive—so much so that I'm starting to suspect your real name might be Sherlock... Sherlock Holmes. Oops, looks like you caught me! My identity is now out in the open. So, what's next? Are you going to read me my charges or have me served with a warrant? Because honestly, it’s starting to feel like I’m under investigation for being too transparent.

I agree with the thrust of what you’re saying.

If you’re looking for someone like the old KDB who’s better than what PSG or Real Madrid have, he isn’t at that level. He might get there, but no guarantees, and not if he’s only used as a squad player.

His long range passing really is exceptional though - that’s where there’s a similarity with KDB.

Our midfielders, as I’m sure you know, don’t really need that as their main asset.
Kalvin Phillips main asset was his accurate long diagonal passing range.

Our midfielders need to be technical, quick in the mind, who rarely lose the ball.
Flicks or tricks need to always pay off. You’ll know full well MGW loses the ball a lot and loves trying fancy flicks that rarely pay off.

His work rate will be welcomed but for me it’s going to be an error by us to waste a huge chunk of our rebuild money on someone who isn’t world class.

If he was 22 and 50m I’d be in.
25 and possibly 85m+… god no.

It’ll be interesting to see if Forest’s and City’s interests align here. From our POV

- if he stays, great
- if we get £80m+, fine - it’ll be exciting to see how we spend the money
- any less than £80m - no thanks

Marinakis rarely sells low, so it’s very possible Forest price him too high for City’s taste

he ain't coming to replace kdb tho, don't put him in the same sentence with kdb, mate

This is the only thing I'm going to say about Jack Grealish on this thread.

Personally I think he was over priced when we signed him, As its always the way when it comes to signing an English player. Anyway, People have short memories when it comes to Jack, He was fucking outstanding in our Treble winning season especially in Europe! Himself and Bernie occupied the wide areas and were both incredible, Grealish played a huge part in our club winning the Treble and for that alone £100m was a fucking bargain...

For what it's worth, Morgan Gibbs-Shite isn't good enough to clean Jack's boots ffs

"Back to the Gibbs-White Thread".

So it’s $50m plus Kalvin-Phillips ;)

Having a gibbs white type midfielder would be fine if we were getting maximum return in terms of G and A from our wingers, he is a jordan henderson type midfielder(maybe more attacking) when at his peak for the dippers. It doesnt feel like its the type we need but maybe we are changing tactics completely. I am not happy with it but wont write him off if it happens and its looking like there is every chance.

Afternoon, Morgan.

Unfortunately, the more I watch him recently, the less I like the look of him.

Hoping it doesnt happen, even if Wirtz doesnt happen.

Lets get Reijnders now to replace KdB and Gundogan as a 8/10, Wharton as a 6/8 for Kova/Bernie (maybe even next year) and keep McAtee as a forward.

Thats my preference.

The way Pep's looking at it, Haaland will cover roughly 35 goals when fully fit. Marmoush and Foden 20 each if they're operating consistently over the course of the season. Bobb, Savinho, and Doku can reach 5-10 goals each. Rodri and Kovacic, and even Gvardiol, are capable of scoring between 7-10 goals each. That's around 100 goals in total.

Maybe Pep thinks adding more workhorse legs in midfield will allow Marmoush, Foden, Haaland, etc. to score more often.
