The Labour Government

If £70k was the stuff of dreams, why is there a shortage of drivers?
The shortage of drivers stems from Covid where training stopped, you then had people retiring which left a gap. It takes about a year to get to post qualified status (classroom and practical) which you then have for a further 3 years. The other problem is drivers keeping route competence which is assessed regularly.

So bottom line, there is a shortage of qualified drivers at the moment. The RSSB is changing the process to shorten the training period which should start to alleviate the problem. There is certainly no shortage of applicants.

The problem overall as with many other privatised industries is they run with a bare minimum of staff. You get drivers trained by Northern for instance who as soon as they are qualified chase higher paying jobs on LNER or West Coast. As the likes of Northern dont run with a significant surplus of trained drivers it causes a shortage leading to issues covering illness, holidays and retirement/resignation.

The trouble is Labour despite trying a lot harder will be held to account because they are in power, just as the Tories were last time. They are very much in the spotlight and the size of their majority focuses and concentrates that spotlight and the public are much less forgiving and much more demanding.

The demands and expectations are so intense right now that I seriously doubt any party will ever be able to rule in isolation (as a single party) again. Much, if not all of this is down to social media. A classic example (and believe me this is not a criticism, merely and observation) is @bluethrunthru and the multiple quotes from "X". The trouble is it works both ways and for all parties.
I agree. Every incumbent political party in all countries look in trouble. The whole world is dissatisfied and no one has any answers.

I'm fast coming around to a change to PR rather than first past the post which would mean that no single party can rule but which of Labour/Tory would cut it's own throat to make it so?

On postings from "X" I tend to agree as well. I like posting my own opinions and being tested and testing others opinions. That's interesting. However, if you keep posting 'X' posts that support your view and only your view then that just becomes propaganda for me and I skip over them. I want your opinion not somebody elses opinion who I cannot converse with. Bit like Jimmy Saville, all we got from the media was Saint Jimmy this, Saint Jimmy that. Anyone would look a Saint if you just post positive news. What was lacking was balance and I think when you just post one viewpoint from 'X' then that balance is totally lost and, as I said, just becomes uninteresting propaganda.

Friend of Mrs MB. 17years qualified, band 7 nurse. Redundancy offer is £74k.

Nurses being made redundant - never thought I’d see that - the fuck is happening to our NHS under this government?? I can’t imagine this was their intention.

Very strong rumours of my NHS trust re-starting the MARS scheme imminently. Massively in the shit financially. I oversee a 24/7 department of 25 staff, currently have 4 vacancies but can't recruit as there's a complete block on recruitment. Morale at an all time low.

With 18 years service, I'll be first in the queue for MARS if offered. Can't wait to get out.

They mentioned cutting non patient facing nurses in certain areas, what’s your wife’s friend doing currently?

I strongly agree.

The messaging is even more important now the average person has the attention span of an autistic goldfish.
To be fair, I'm very surprised there's not a thread on here petitioning the rights for the people who identify as autistic goldfish.

Where’s Streeting really is a clueless arse and should be in the Tory party along with his puppet master, Alan Milburn. Milburn made such a balls up during his time, as minister, you’d have thought Starmer would have had him nowhere near. The fact that he was the main advocate for PFI, introduced foundation trusts (to ‘compete’ against each other) and pushed more involvement of the private sector tells you all you need to know about him and, sadly, about the people currently in charge.

Every MP should be made to use the NHS and the national schooling system, as there’d be improvements almost immediately…..

Alan Hull is seen as working class - Tom Pickard see's himself as a working class poet - wonder how many folk from Shields recognise the concept of breaking out the olives, the black bread and the laying out of the basil? Is this the sort of thing that began Labour's losing the working class?

That’s not right.

Band 7 staff include ward sisters, charge nurses, senior physiotherapists, occupational therapists, pharmacists and senior midwives.

I’d imagine doing those roles whilst not facing patients is a tad tricky…

It does but also has some managerial roles that aren’t patient facing, that’s why I asked what role his wife’s friend was doing. I work for a private company that works a lot with the NHS and as much as I have a problem with what we do, the mid to senior level management in there is terrible in places.

Some of it is down to wrong shape and wrong hole though, so I was genuinely interested what role they were doing.

Good news for a professional, and a nice pension, for somebody who has worked hard to look after our people.

Well deserved.

Anyone who says 70k isn't a very good salary is a bad faith poster and has an agenda.
