Southampton (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Another Pep masterstroke today, yes he is the greatest manager we've ever had, but he fucks about when fucking about isn't necessary.
So many changes to what has been our best spell of the season, absolutely no pace in the starting eleven, it was slow, turgid shite.
Whoever decides our corner routine needs fucking shooting, how many high hanging over hit corners does it take to realise it ain't working.
I fear those lost points will stop us getting top 5, which is imperative for financial reasons.

I guess we should be grateful he didn't save this brainfart for the cup final next week. None of the changes today should play and that includes Haaland. Okay maybe Lewis but in midfield.

0-0 Man City

Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola told BBC Sport: "Difficult. We had chances but unfortunately couldn’t score. [Southampton were] playing to defend and defend and defend and waste time. We take that point still, it’s in our hands.

"Didn’t expect them to defend so deep. Defensive we were so good but unfortunately we missed the last actions.

"He [Erling Haaland] didn’t expect to play as any minutes but the way the game was played we needed people in the box.

"That point was really important."
Maybe rather than that point being really important .. it’s probably more likely that the two points dropped are disastrous

If one scene in a 38 scene film
was slightly below standard it wouldn’t stop me enjoying the movie as a whole.

Bigger picture, pun intended
Now come on Mate, ONE scene?

And 'slightly' ?

How Pep turns us into a top side again heaven only knows. Maybe a change is needed
The real issue to my mind is not the personnel but the tactics. We are so slow on the transition, the low block guys are waiting for us. Cue sideways passing.
We need to play at a faster tempo and mix it up with longer balls.
See barcodes game.
Will Pep adapt? We didn’t play like this when Pep first came but other sides have worked us out. Change it FFS.

Agree with this, and playing one game a week now there’s absolutely no excuses, my gut feeling is Pep has taken us as far as he can - mentality wise, and he needs a break from football, there is no shame in it, and I think the players need to hear a new voice.
Even more so with a summer of constant football, little or no break and an angry wife in his ear....what could go wrong.

I fucking knew he wouldn't be able to help himself as soon as akanji and haaland were back - straight back into the side moving gvardiol away from CB where he was aiding our build up, drop oreily to the bench, Rico back as RB (and I'm a Rico fan), marmoush dropped.
Rico is better in MF for sure. Not convinced he is good enough to start but certainly a handy squad player. He should be nowhere near the defence though.

We have got ourselves into this position by wasting several transfer windows not filling obvious holes in the squad.

CWC also a curse as, great as it is to be part of it, some mentally and physically exhausted players won’t get a rest and there is also no time to make the really needed changes in the coaching staff.

We will improve next year with a fit rodders (hopefully) but if we don’t do more work tactically then we will see some of what we have seen this year

Strange choice to drop Nunes and play no wingers, Nunes at least gives width, pace and creates chances.

Says how much we have fallen when our two best players are Kovacic and O'Reilly.

We have witnessed an alarming and unnecessary slump.
It is truly astounding. I can't think of another team that has fallen so quickly, so sharply.
And yes, before anyone jumps in, I know we are still 3rd. But, it's the vibe around our play, the lack of belief, of risk taking, of ingenuity, of individual brilliance, that has been sucked out of the players.
They have all started playing safety first football.

Top 3/5 masks where we really are imho

That might be true. But I think it would be just as true of nearly all the teams below us vying for a CL spot. I think outside of Liverpool and Arsenal the three other representatives in the CL will be quite weak (and Liverpool and Arsenal will both need to strengthen to hold their own, make no mistake). We might not, if we have a remarkable recruiting close season. But I'm not holding my breath.

I am normally firmly in the "hold your nerves Blues its not over until its over " camp - I was wondering about what we do for the last few games but have actually gone there in my mind having given it thought - we don't deserve anything from this season. The drop off is disgraceful the performances have been piss poor and nobody at the clubs deserves anything for their efforts or lack of this season.
