The 2025 Rebuild of City Squad

Lewis and McAtee need to go, they’ve had enough chances and they’re just not the level we need.

Bernardo needs to go, he offers nothing now. Same with Gundogan.

Kev already going, and unfortunately I think Eddie too.

So we need a keeper, two proper, top class full backs, and at least one high energy midfielder that can score or at least create.

Ideally at least one winger that can score too, none of ours can.
It’s grim, what annoys me is the wingers we’ve spent significant sums on just aren’t good enough.

They are not good enough because we recycle the ball so slowly that teams hav everyone behind the ball.

For me our failings are tactical not personnel

I know a few have mentioned we don't need wingers, to which I'd agree, but we do need our actual wingers to provide more of a goal threat, 5 goals between them all in the prem this season.

Some tough conversations need to be had with a few players. If players like Silva stick around with how much Pep loves them, nobody we sign will get a game.

We could sell Silva and Pep would find some way to get him back in the lineup.

Watching PSG dominate Europe with attacking wingers and wingbacks, with players we had the chance to sign like Neves and Ruiz in midfield, we need to get this window right.
Of course we need wingers, ours are trash. How can anyone say otherwise, even more so now with no quality 10.

The lack of depth is quite startling, really. Especially in full back and a genuine contender-esque midfield.

We badly need legs in midfield. That’s so evident - not just from today, it has been all season. MGW is a start. But that can’t be it.

I’m not talking a Wirtz/Simons type player either. I mean an all-action midfielder who will bring intensity in there. A willingness to fight, to win and to drive the team on. Essentially another Rodri.

There’s enough depth in attack - in my opinion - to create chances. So long as there’s some dynamism and runners from midfield to help create space.

People harp back to the Leroy/Sterling days but that team had the two 8s (Silva and Kev) making runs into the inside channels between full back and centre half which caused havoc. It created space for wingers to do their thing.

We don’t have that now. Instead we have Kovacic doing everything while Kev and Bernardo sit on the outskirts of games and on the edge of the box happy to pass sideways and backwards rather than making runs to drag teams out of position.

That’s the big issue IMO. And somebody like MGW will help with that. Rodri being back will help with that. But we need somebody else with a willingness to move.

I’ve got no idea who that could be, though.

That squad is beyond average.

We should be looking a far higher quality at fullbacks
ADavies. Kerkez, or THernandez at left back.
Frimpong, Livrimento, or Hakimi at right back.

In midfield forget Wirtz, Reyna's son is a lifetime blue and is still only 22 and is better than MGW and 3 years younger.
Tonali is also one I feel would be a great addition.
We have to sort the defence out.

I always wondered about Gio Reyna. But what happened with him and the international team/coach? Remember him sounding like a bit of a dick and to be honest haven’t seen much of him since.

I’d still have him here though, especially after today. Just no energy in the middle,
That needs to change

Joan Garcia
Livramento
Baleba
El Khannouss

Ederson, Stones, Akanji, Kova, Bernardo and Grealish to go. Need to use Nico, Khusanov and Reis a lot more. Could use another LB, but we should be looking to integrate Mfuni as a backup option

The one player I would let go if a big enough offer came in would be Haaland.
Controversial I know but with him in the team we just turn into a "give it to Gordon" , the big lad in the centre.
It's Marmoush that lets us play dynamic football at pace, more akin to the Kun days.
I'm not saying Haaland was a mistake, his goals and the trophies say it clearly wasn't, but equally I don't think he is our ideal long term solution.
If only we had Marmoush and Alvarez- that would be a fun pairing

Personally I think you are overdoing Marmoush and his qualities. He is hit and miss and we haven’t been scintillating recently without Haaland. We have just had a lot of good fortune and individual skill, mainly from Doku and De Bruyne in certain games.

We need a major overhaul. This team is done.

When I think back to the team of peak Kompany, Walker, DeBruyne, Sergio, Silva, Fernandinho, Sterling etc etc and compare it to this one, it’s chalk and cheese. No way is this squad winning titles. Rico Lewis and McAtee ? Savinho? No chance.

We need at least 5 new plyers who will hit the ground running, not players who may come good in 2/3 years. The January window was a terrible one driven by panic and we can’t afford another like that!

I just don’t think enough quality players are available. We are in trouble next season as we need at least 6 players

I’m sorry but in what world is ever as good as MGW, they played for the same club and MGW has shined and Renya failed. He’s never shown it anywhere, he’s less than average and hyped up because he’s American and came through at Dortmund
