That’s factually incorrect. Sentences have on average been getting progressively more severe for a long time now.

Prison is considered soft by many of the ethnic minority inmates. Much easier than their own countries.

Sentences handed down by UK courts very rarely fit the crime in my, and I suspect many others, opinion. They are rarely completed thanks to 'good behaviour', Starmer, etc.

Weak policing by in the main underfunded and disenchanted officers, is largely down to the Court's failue to apply the full force of the law.

The punishment should fit the crime. At the rate our society is changing for the worse, history will see the abolishment of the death penalty and increasingly over-lenient sentencing as a huge mistake.

All sentences should be fully served. 10 years should mean 10 years to the day.

Knife and gun crime should carry a mandatory life sentence for juvenile and adult offenders.

Proceeds from fraud / robbery etc, should be repaid in full by the criminal via sale of personal assets, or

Reducing sentences for early 'guilty' pleas should be scrapped completely.

'Illegal immigants' found guuilty oof commiting any offence should be deported on the day their sentences are completed.

Prisons should be places where only very basic rights are given. No TV, Internet, sports/games etc, just three meals a day, a bed, a toilet, and access to library for educational study. Prisoners should be responsible for all cleaning and decoration of their accommodation.

I know you'll pick holes out of everything I've said GDM, it may be unrealistic, but it's just my opinion, and what would be in force if I ruled the world!

Apologies. I iintended to say that the whole legal system is over-lenient. My view on their being increasingly over-lenient was based on Starmer's decision to allow early release to large numbers of 'low risk' prisoners, simply to save money.

Our legal system was effectively 'overruled' and thereby weakened for financial reasons, and it won't be the last time.

Like the police, the judiciary will eventually see the futility of trying to do a 'proper' job.
