Referees’ Performances | 2024/2025

While we can not blame a ref for missing incidents on the pitch, we can blame VAR who have the ability to review in slow motion, in our latest game the wolves LB should have seen red, I am not a believer that he studded Bernardo on purpose, but the fact remain that he has extended his stride and caught bernardo high above the ankle with his studs, long after the ball has gone, a highly dangerous challenge, VAR has no excuse for not telling the ref. As with the penalty from the week before, replays show the player move his arm into the flight of the ball, not that that matters as his arm was mot next to his body, in a natural position, penalty and a red card should have been awarded, as he blocked a goal bound shot with his arm. Going back further you have Lewis`s red card, the commentators gleefully claiming that VAR can not interfere with a second yellow,`the replays showed it was Lewis who was fouled`, this was a lie as the replays show the foul on Lewis was inside the penalty area, and all possible penalties have to be reviewed. Ref`s are manipulating results, in the past we were simply too good for them to affect us so they cheated for the cartel.

I know we rightly moan terribly about VAR, but Orient have just had a goal allowed against Stockport that was a good three yards offside. Extraordinary.

That's an issue with the introduction of VAR.

It has never ever tackled the issue of improving officiating. It doesn't exist as a safety net down the pyramid for other referees so what hope do they have being left behind?

Granted this particular decision was as clear as day and just a shockingly shit one, my point is more a general one.

How the fuck wasn’t that a 2nd yellow, there’s been a precedent with the rice red, so why would something that’s not subjective be ignored?

It was a pretty feint touch. The linesman and referee have obviously thought he hasn’t touched it and the guy was presumably onside from the previous header.

It’s a bad mistake. But I’m pretty sure they haven’t seen the touch and actually thought the guy was onside from it.

Ref out of his depth today in what should have been a relatively easy game to ref. The most blatant of yellow cards not given for delaying a restart, there can be no explanation as to why it wasn’t given but yet again the club won’t say anything. I would have be3n on the phone to Howard Webb at half time asking why. May have been soft the laws of the game are there for a reason. Same goes for not booking Ramsdale for continuously taking 20 seconds before releasing the ball instead of six and thirty seconds over every goal kick. Yellow card in the first half stops it all.

Should’ve had 2 penalties today
For me 2 definite pens especially when you consider the 1 utd got in Europe the other week.
Just watching motd. How was Mings allowed to get away with a clear elbow. Then we have Darren England not giving a penalty for a clear hand ball, under the PL interpretation. If that was having his arm near his body......

It wouldn't. No referee would send a keeper off for two time wasting yellows. It's damn near impossible for them to get one against us. Time wasting only comes into effect when we go in front.

These type of incidents were very rare before VAR so I would accept them rather than have VAR making ridiculous mm offside decisions If VAR was used for horrendous offside errors with the need for freeze frame and slow motion then fine

Could be fixed with a simple clarification of the use of VAR for offside - they get 10 seconds to check. If it's a clear and obvious error, you'll see it immediately. If you can't decide within 10 seconds it's not clear and obvious so the on field decision stands.

Its crap if you're watching it on TV but when you're in a stadium it's a joke. Surely no one wants what they've currently created.

The people at the top who created it... do want it.
Its called Control.

FIFA resisted calls for VAR for years. It was pressure from clubs, fans and the media that eventually made them relent.
Is that correct ? I don't recall speaking to one single football fan who wanted the intervention before it was brought in,...and before Var ...the stockley park link up to the onfield ref was not something I ever heard demanded by any football fan....this of course was the forerunner of Var....and involved the infamous Anthony Taylor incident city v Chelsea when he failed to send off a Chelsea defender for a blatant red card offence on Sergio ...racing across the pitch to issue a red, then stopping to listen into his ear peice ,and subsequently deciding to show a yellow....a decision which reduced my appetite for attending matches in person.
And ..if you are correct ,I'd imagine most football fans now don't want the current system, yet it's here to stay,.
