Two hard working eights is something Klopps dippers would have? Pep might be moving away from technical midfielders to high work rate midfielders that can score.
I think they're both a bit more than just hard working eights. They've got 36 goals and assists between them this season. If you leave Haaland out of it then no two players in the team can match those numbers

Nico is more of 6/8 (Rodri, Kovacic), while Reijnders is more of a 8/10 (Gundogan, KdB).

They both can play in the same system.

But with MGW, and with Reijnders, this makes it a really weird decision to keep Gundogan next season imo.

He just needs to go to free up some foreign player spots.
It wasn't our decision for him to stay though it's his,more another consequence of Rodri's injury. It could well be though if he's decided to stay and trigger his second year it could be on the understanding he won't feature much and may well not be registered for CL which frees a spot up.

I was made to belive that they are both targets but I also thought, one could possibly be a stand in for the other, especially with MGW links. Which is why this transfer window has me feeling so uneasy—we need to get it right. Both Reijnders and Wirtz are crucial for the 8 and 10 roles. Unfortunately, we also have to consider the homegrown rule. I’m hoping City can meet that quota by bringing in talent from positions other than midfield.

If KDB, Bernardo and Grealish leave then there’s a bit of room for Wirtz, Reijnders and MGW though cost rather than space might be the issue.

Grealish makes a space for MGW , KDB doesn't really make a space for Wirtz,or anyone else if we want to register Khusonov and Reis as we'll,need others to leave too.

Dream signing for me this lad.

Him and Rodri together in a midfield would be incredible.

I won’t get to excited till it’s done but he’s a game changer for us this transfer window.
Would he really play alongside Rodri? We've seen plenty of 6/8s coming in throughout the years (Phillips, Nico etc) none have had a sniff. Don't want to spend £50m+ on a player who will leave to go to West Ham in 2 years anyway

We have room for Khusanov already but not Reis or Bah. We still have question marks over the futures of Nunes and Kovacic. If we really are targeting Wirtz, Reijnders and MGW then perhaps Kovacic is being moved on. Gundogan says he’s staying but who knows.

Yes, meant Echeverti not Khusonov. Think we need at least 2 maybe 3 of Bernardo , Kovacic , Nunes to leave. If we want fullbacks too.

@David Silva

I don’t know how true this is, but apparently, our ideal targets this summer were two dynamic 8s and a creative 10—specifically MGW as one of the 8's, not 10, Reijnders, and Wirtz. That was the blueprint the club seemed to be working from. Clearly, there were plans in motion to make space in the midfield to accommodate those potential incomings if they landed the targets.

At the same time, there was an understanding internally that the market is volatile, and not every deal goes through as expected. So while those names were top of the list, the club was prepared to remain flexible and course correct if necessary. The intention was there—now it’s all about execution and how well we adapt to shifting circumstances.
