Pep isn't beyond criticism, but it's football and sometimes the best team doesn't win - that's why we love it. You can prepare the team, get the tactics and lineup spot on and still lose. The players have to deliver and sometimes they don't. Sometimes someone scores a goal you couldn't have done much to prevent.

But his track record in finals is staggering. Out of all the finals he's been in he's only lost two - the CL fuckup you referred to and last year's cup final which was a shitshow.

Otherwise he's won every single one.

2 x Copa Del Rey
3 x CL
4 x Super Cup
4 x Club World Cup
2 x German Cups
2 x FA Cup
4 x League Cups

Not bad for an overthinker.
Agreed, you can't argue with the record, but you can have an opinion. It's not bore out from nothing, It comes from what you see and experience. What I have a real beef with is this "he watches them in training" statement that seems to be trotted out more and more as the season comes to a close. As if any opinion opposite to that is not valid. It's just not something I can get behind. It's been a long season. I'm just irritable.

That was partly why last seasons non performance in the final was such a shocker.

Considering his long history of winning finals would you start to worry if he lost this weekend, making it 2 final losses in 2 seasons, and against a crystal palace team that we should be beating in a final fairly comfortably?

Suppose we wait until after the game for that, but learning that we've not been training this week has spooked me a bit. And I kinda expect him to play KDB out of respect for him which is taking a chance IMO. Another part of me thinks he might have been playing kev so much lately because he doesn't plan on starting him in the final.

See how it pans out. Up the blues

It's an odd one. I don't like the fact we have been resting this week. It doesn't feel necessary when our schedule has been so relaxed compared to usual campaigns. Feels like a week we needed to be completely drilled on what is required for the final and to ensure we come out ready to go from the start and aren't lethargic from a lack of training.

I would hope we aren't dismissing the FA Cup and prioritising the league/Club World Cup instead. The money at stake in both is much greater. There's not much time to rest otherwise...

We will see come Saturday. We know how Palace will play, there's not much that will shock us there so maybe a rest and then a few sessions on how to beat them is all that's needed.

Actually if there's one thing I wouldn't hold against him it's last year's final. That team was dead on its feet. They dragged themselves through the semi-final, somehow won it, but you could see it there. The final was a step too far.
I believe that the really poor part of this season, those two or three months before Christmas, were part of the reaction to eight years of solid effort in three or four competitions season after season.
Pep is easily the greatest manager we've ever had, or will ever have. He does get things wrong. It's rare, but it happens. It is the right of every person on this forum to express an opinion about that. And it is the right of every other person to dissent from that opinion. Otherwise Ric might as well close down the forum.

God, I remember the Semi final against Chelsea. We looked knackered at Kick Off, testament to the team that we managed to actually win that match.

Is this a wind up post??
No, why would it be?

Or do you think Phil (or any dynamic forward player for that matter) wouldn't be better suited to a dynamic, flowing side like Liverpool or Arsenal rather than the shove-10-in-the-box-and-hope-for-the-best current version of City?

Or perhaps you are happy with our forwards being smothered out of the game with the current tactics?

Maybe you just think Phil is shit?

So who is guaranteed to start?
Ederson
Dias
Gvardiol
Kova
Bernardo
Marmoush
Erling
Anyone else ?
I dunno.

It's Pep.

Wouldn't surprise me to see the whole bench playing as a "fuck you" to the chump performance's against Southampton.
