While the statistics show that Derby will technically be the worst in terms of points gained, there is no getting away from the point that this season’s Southampton are by far and away one of the worst teams the top flight has ever seen and arguably THE worst in terms of overall quality.

We’ve all watched City long enough to know that despite treble wins / 4 in a row / etc, no game is ever a “banker” and we are absolutely adept at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory... BUT that game last week was an absolute nailed-on must-win and 0-0 to them was, relatively speaking, a bit of a disaster.

Of course they deserve it. It’s a rule which has been in place for years, it’s irrelevant how they’ve performed in the league. At the start of the season both clubs aim would have been to qualify for the champions league, both on course to do that at the minute.
