A bit like when were runners up to them in 1977, we got close (a point) in the end, but it wasn't ever close, they just gave up, only win 1 in the last 6 games.

Wow that was before I was born..

I had to go look up the league table.. they won the league with 57 points.

Two points for a win back then, I'm pretty sure. And a 42 game season as well. So, a maximum of 84 points. And, as @cleavers said, they'd pretty much clocked out for the last month. They could have ended up with a pts total in the high 60s. That would have been nearly 80% of the available points. For context, in our centurions season, which was phenomenal, we amassed 88% of the available points. That Liverpool side of the late 70s was a bloody good side. IIRC, they won the league one season conceding only 16 goals. But I still wonder what might have been, had we had Colin Bell available for the whole season.

Will it be Top 5 qualify again next season?

You would think having an extra team in CL would help earn even more co efficient points but Spurs won't be able to farm wins in the CL like they did against Europa League fodder so maybe not.
It’s not the total but the average that counts.

Gyokeres reaches 63 goals this season in all competitions, absolute beast...

Also, Retegui from Atalanta is a class striker, goes under looked in Serie A.

Not sure we would have, to be honest. They've been on the beach since clinching the league. No win in their last four games gives a false impression when you look at the table. "only 13 pts behind them". If the title was still in the balance, do you think they'd have finished the season the way they did? Not a chance, in my opinion*.

*other opinions are available!
Not been put under any pressure though.

I think it's been a poor season all round in terms of quality. Made the league a lot closer apart from them so they stood out.

Their cup exploits brings a bit of realism to what they are.

We have still tossed away a ridiculous amount of points though.

3rd is respectable all things considered.

How many years have we finished 3 now?

Wonder what the best record for finishing top 3 is?

Thought we wouldn't do it,we were that shit this season, happy to be proved wrong, dug deep and got over the line, terrible prem season when rubbish like Chelsea qualify too, horrible to watch the scousers touch our trophy ,we'll be back.Up the Blues. Ps Thanks for the memories Kev,for me our greatest ever player.

Think we will make top 5, not even we can fcuk it up from here

We won the second most games in the league and scored the second most goals in the league.
Not bad for a crumbling midfield with no full backs & a massive injury list for most of the season especially as we had a 2 month mid season break.

If I was a dip with a brain (I know) I'd not fancy retaining the title.

In fact 5/2 on us to win next year looks really good value.

The key was the run of fixtures starting with Chelsea at home and finishing with Forest away. I thought at the time if we could get 8 points from those we'd be in a good shape as the last 10 fixtures had a 7-2-1 feel to them.
As it was we got 9 points and finished with 7-3-0.

A week ago I thought Villa were a bit unlucky the way the last 2 fixtures fell. Rags A looked a gimme the match before the ECL final, whereas afterwards it would depend on whether they won (easy post-celebration 3 points) or lost (motivated to not finish 17th!), whereas Spurs H looked in the bag whichever way it fell.

Agree about those Villa fixtures.
Conversely, Chelsea were fortunate to play the dippers when they were still hung over after clinching the title and the rags immediately ahead of the Europa final. But that win at Forest yesterday showed a lot of steel.
