Crystal Palace (N) | FA Cup Final | Post Match Thread

I had walk it off to calm down. It was unreal that we had one week to prepare and this is what we served up. same as vs Soton the week before.

what goes on in trainings is down to Pep and Lillo. its clearly not good enough if this is the results we are getting all season. get to the final and lose to fucking Palace is a joke who had about one chance all game. did we really prepare that if we are behind and they sit back we need to watch Akanji and Dias aimlessly pass around and struggle to find anyone. this is not tactics this is bullshit. try anything but this. long shots, strong crosses instead of Doku being brainless or Foden or Savinho useless, and deep crosses from KDB very inaccurate and without power.

most importnt thing was not to go behind and pick a starting line up like this with no one helping defence is a mistake llike he did in the CL final when Fernandinho and Rodri both were benched. fuck offffff
would Palace manager try to to clever and leave Eze out? nooooo

I am fuming.

dont get me started on the penalty farce, thank you Marmoush. well done.

Teams do seem to have got it of to a fine art, this master tactic of packing the area and hoping for the big boot up field ,and with a bit of luck ,a worldy or a cock from us,jobs a good 'un.They do not seem to be quite negative with other teams.
I know it's not for me to solve ,but how do we counter it? There is no space so pace is almost irrelevant ,and just waiting for us to produce the proverbial "moment of magic "is tempting providence .
One thing would be for the CBs to stay on the half way line instead of pushing up and compressing the game into the last 30 yards which results in them having so much procession passing back and forth to each other It also results in being caught on the counter They are CBs for a reason if they were any good at creativity then they would be in todays parlance number 10s Not a slight on Akanji but the number of times he got the ball Ina na offensive position and choose to pass it sideways and slowly as well did my head in No wonder teams just pack the area ans it’s not hard to defend that way Dias was right last week and Palace were no different today aside from having better players to counter

Some embarrassing takes on here, show some loyalty you bunch of cunts, the greatest manager of all time and he is ours,he's not playing it's the idiots who don't listen to him and the fact that the greatest player in the last few years is missing plus age related issues collectively that's the issue, what do you want fucking Alan pardew or some other bell end in charge, you will all be eating your words next season sound like fucking rag's, we've won everything ffs, entitled pricks,we can't possibly win everything every year.
100% agree, and I wish some of those idiots would get it into their heads that NO ENGLISH CLUB has EVER done what we have done. 4 consecutive titles, domestic treble, EU treble, 7 consecutive FAC semi finals, 100 goals, 100 points, all the individual player records and so on, and so on...

You cannot have the number of injuries that were have had and expect the same results as we would have most likely had if everybody had been fully fit for most of the season. We had something like 11 squad players out at one point. That's an entire team. It's not an excuse, it's basic common sense. If you're under par you're more likely to lose, and if you're under strength for the next match you're likely to lose that one too, and the next one, and the next. That's exactly what happened.

Today we didn't do a lot wrong but when you're facing teams that park the bus it's going to work for them sometimes. It worked for Southampton last week, it worked for Palace today and you'll always get results like this for as long as the game exists. No club will ever win the title playing that way but they might win the odd important match and so it was today.

Here’s a thought kick off give it to our keeper and fucking stand there with it till the other team come to get it then hit them on the break, im sick to fucking death of other teams just sitting in their box against us whilst we huff and puff, if they don’t come and attack take a 0-0 draw, anti fucking football just get to fuck.
Totally agree. Been saying that for ages. Embarass them in front of the watching football audience.

We started off well and should've been ahead, but then as usual they hit us on the break and score with their first attack!

They then totally sat back and we huffed and puffed but lacked the decisive pass and creativity to break them down.
We didn't deserve to lose, but we did because we're just not clinical and we're so easy to play against.

I thought Doku was our best player and had a good effort saved, but he's frustrating because if he's not cutting inside he's got no end product.

I like Savinho but anyone can see, and have for ages, that he hasn't got a right foot.

The fact that we didn't even swap our wingers and try them on their natural side and just let them take their man on is, and has been, baffling to me all season.
This inverted style has just got old and opposition teams know it's coming and how to combat it. It's time to change it up!

I luv Erling but he's obviously lacking in confidence and he can't pass up taking that penalty. I thought he was our penalty taker?!
I'd rather he miss than let someone else take it and then watch them miss, it was a strange decision and was one reason we lost the game.

The other reason was VAR!
That handball was a shocking decision and as we've seen since it's inception, it's not fit for purpose!
Either sort it out and use it properly, or get rid! It's ruined, and continues to ruin, the game!

I liked seeing Echeverri and he could've scored, i just don't understand why we haven't seem him before now? Giving him his debut in the FA Cup final, really!

We need a re-think and we've already got a lot of good, young players, but we need new blood, including coaching staff.
GK, RB, LB, AM, CF at a minimum for me.

I hope Pep is up for the challenge, as he needs to be more flexible and open to new ideas if we're winning trophies next season.

cant wait for Khaldoon review. he needs the explain WTF this season is. and wait if we miss out on CL while his Qatari rivals win the TREBLE.

Soriano and him was watching today at Wembley, Txiki too, hope they liked what they saw. much if it is down to them.

You have to blame pep for the way we play though. Not telling me that the 11 on the pitch cannot have a shot from the edge of the box. They're all shit scared of him. As they know if you deviate from peps plan you're coming off.

Doku said it after the forrest game. I'll go every time but I don't. He's been instructed as have the entire team to play this way. In some ways they've been over Coached and all their creative juices have been sucked out of them. They're devoid of it currently and it shows when you can't break down a team that as of last week we're the same level as the worst team to ever play in the top division.

And set pieces don't get me started on those.

What happened to the maraudering wingers when we had sterling and sane running into the back post to tuck it away, we don't break with any pace, it's slow, robotic and worst of all predictable.

The opposition have all week to setup defensively as they know what we're going to do. Pass it around the box. They know we won't take a chance it has to be the perfect goal. So they sit on the width of the box push 2 men out to a winger, we recycle they shift across. We're not pulling them out of position. No sacrificial runs and when we do make a good run we turn away. Echeverri had a couple of times screaming for the ball to have a run and kdb and bernardo turn away and lay it off 5 yards.

We need some dynamism and fast
It can be the same with some fans too. If you critisise anything the man does, there’ll always be someone to jump down your throat. Don’t get me wrong, Pep is lord and saviour to me, and I’ll never be able to thank him enough as we’ve seen things you would only dream of, but if you don’t get any critisism, you won’t improve. It’s simple as.

100%. We've witnessed the greatest period any team has had in this country's football history, and something that is unlikely to ever be beaten. Some loyalty towards those involved should be an absolute given.

Pep you are disgrace to our club your rant at the Palace goalie, Why ?? The officials were to blame not Henderson. Ive always supported you until today but there is no way that any fair minded City fans can support you on this ocassion.
Pressure does strange things to people. It looked bad.

Trivial it may be but this head injury protocol is clearly flawed.
Of course it is. Player blocks a shot and the ball hits his head he drops to the floor holding his head. Kills the game. Ok, let’s enforce a substitution, if you’ve used all your subs your allowed a head injury sub. It would disappear overnight.

Fair point but I believe that most recent managers are wise to that and will make sure they teams don't bite, don't allow themselves to get drawn out.

I think we need to be a bit quicker on the break when the other team are attacking, especially when they have a set piece like a corner or free kick. We're throwing everybody up the field to defend instead of leaving a couple up, but then playing the usual style of build up game when we win the ball back so by the time we're back in their third of the field they've got everybody back behind the ball again.
